Brief about the Role:We need an individual with extensive, hands-on experience with Grafana who can start with tactical tasks and eventually evolve into strategic work. In the short term, we require someone capable of building and expanding existing Grafana dashboards that integrate data from systems such as Status Gator and ControlUp APIs to display service status across our environment. In the long term, the ideal candidate should be able to design and implement a comprehensive observability strategy for our organization, which includes over 5,000 employees globally. Currently, our approach is reactive, relying on user reports to identify issues. Our goal is to transition to proactive monitoring with real metrics, effective alerting, and comprehensive visibility across our infrastructure. This is a substantial initiative requiring both technical expertise and strategic thinking.
The essential qualifications include:· 5+ years of Grafana experience, with a proven track record in Grafana dashboard creation.· Experience in designing and implementing observability strategies and tools for large organizations.· Ability to integrate data from REST APIs into monitoring platforms.· Prior experience in defining Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Service Level Indicators (SLIs), and business-relevant metrics.· Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to leadership in business terms.· A results-oriented approach, with a focus on executing tasks efficiently.· Demonstrable examples of dashboards and monitoring frameworks they have built. Key Skills: 🔹 Core Grafana Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Grafana dashboard creation & customization
Expertise in Grafana panels, variables, transformations, and alerts
Experience with Grafana provisioning (dashboards, data sources, alerts as code)
Knowledge of Grafana plugins (panel, data source, app plugins)
Grafana alerting (unified alerting) and notification channels

Solid understanding of observability pillars:
Metrics

Traces
Experience with SLI, SLO, SLA design
Knowledge of MTTR, uptime, latency, error rates
Service health and dependency mapping

Designing actionable alerts (threshold, anomaly, multi-condition)

Experience with Grafana Loki & Tempo
Synthetic monitoring

Certifications (Good to Have):· Grafana Certified Professional (GCP)·
Domain & Analytical Skills:· Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and compliance· Experience handling large-scale datasets and performance-sensitive dashboards· Ability to convert business requirements into analytical models & insights
Soft Skills & Behavioural Traits:· Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset· Clear communication with technical & non-technical stakeholders· Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams· High ownership, accountability, and attention to detail· Comfortable working in onsite government project environments
