The India-Lead Elimination Action Partnership (i-LEAP), an initiative of PIF, is committed to eliminating lead exposure in India. i-LEAP brings together public health and policy experts to engage stakeholders, generate robust evidence and develop actionable, evidence-based policy recommendations to guide government action.


The Field Coordinator is a critical, experienced professional responsible for the successful, high-quality execution of the lead exposure assessment study within the designated coal mining region. This role acts as the essential link between the central research team and all field-level operations, ensuring methodological rigor and efficient resource deployment.


Role Overview and Core Mandate

The Field Coordinator serves as the focal point for field execution, external stakeholder engagement, and quality assurance (QA/QC). The primary mandate is to translate the technical study protocol into actionable, ethical and timely field work.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Supervision and Management: Supervise and provide continuous support and mentorship to all temporary field teams, including household surveyors and environmental sample collectors.
  2. Operational Planning: Develop detailed micro-plans for daily household visits and sampling routes, ensuring logistical efficiency and strict adherence to the overall study timeline.
  3. Quality and Protocol Compliance: Ensure strict compliance with all SOPs for both the administration of detailed surveys and the rigorous collection and handling of all environmental samples.
  4. Data Integrity Monitoring: Conduct continuous, real-time monitoring of collected data to maintain quality, completeness and consistency, immediately addressing any procedural deviations or errors.
  5. Stakeholder Relations: Act as the primary, professional liaison for the study with all local external parties including district-level government officials, community leaders and local institutions. This is crucial for facilitating access and ensuring community buy-in.
  6. Logistics and Reporting: Oversee all field logistics, including the management of materials, transportation plans, and the maintenance of the cold chain for biological or chemical samples, as required.
  7. Progress Reporting: Submit comprehensive and timely field reports to the Project Director or Principal Investigator, detailing daily progress metrics, resource consumption, and summarizing any challenges encountered.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Social Work, Environmental Sciences, or a relevant field.
  • Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of progressive experience in field/research coordination or project supervision.
  • Competencies: Demonstrated strong leadership, organizational, and logistical skills essential for managing field teams and ensuring data integrity.


Nature of Engagement

This role is defined as temporary and site-specific, requiring robust local knowledge and a commitment to rigorous ethical standards for coordination. Candidates will be reimbursed for daily local transportation and lunch expenses in line with the organization’s reimbursement policy. Please note that accommodation is not covered. The ultimate goal of this engagement is to successfully generate the primary evidence required to inform subsequent public health interventions aimed at mitigating lead exposure risks in the region.
