Meet Our Team:

The Commerce group is part of the Core & Data organization within WBD’s Global Tech division. Our services handle all aspects of monetizing our streaming services. This includes everything from managing products, pricing, and promotions; selling subscriptions and pay-per-view events; integration with 3rd party providers for global and local payment methods; handling taxes, fraud, financial reporting, and much, much more. We provide the backend APIs that power all our clients, and our teams own design, build, maintain, and are responsible to both deploy and operate our services. The group is currently based in US, Sweden, and Poland and is now expanding in India

Roles & Responsibilities:

We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead our commerce engineering teams in Hyderabad. In this role you will manage and build high-performing teams. Your scope will include:

• Enabling our streaming services, including our flagship product HBO Max, to grow globally through new Payment method integrations.

• Building and operating Migration services to consolidate WBD systems onto a common Commerce platform

• Services that integrate with SAP and processes built on our Databricks data warehouse that ensure financial processes run smoothly, including revenue recognition, reconciliation, and compliance.

You will support and lead the engineering managers and their teams in identifying and solving technological gaps. You will uphold rigorous standards of engineering and operational excellence, as practiced widely across WBD. You will attract, coach, and retain key talent and provide opportunities for professional and career growth. Finally, you will encourage the team to push the envelope in adopting AI tools and best practices both to improve day to day development and to advance the state of the art of our platform. Responsibilities will include:

• Building and managing a team of high-performing engineers and managers. Ensure retention through challenging professional opportunities and career growth prospects.

• Manage relationships with key stakeholders across platform, back-end, and client engineering.

• Identify new opportunities and enhancements and feed them to the shared roadmap for prioritization.

• Identify and manage partner relationships internally and externally to ensure smooth integration into the WBD product delivery process.

• Ability to manage complexity and uncertainty associated with new product development.

• Manage global teams spanning multiple time zones and cultures.

• Influence and champion process, tools, operations, and technological improvements to operate global scale cloud-based platform services.

• Mentor other software development managers throughout the organization building the next generation of leaders.

What to Bring:

• 10-15 years leading and managing software development teams in a global and distributed environment

• Proven experience building, scaling, and growing teams of 30+ engineers comprising multiple SDMs and ownership of an engineering led software service/product.

• Strong technical understanding of Kubernetes-based microservice architectures, messaging services, DB services, API gateways, service mesh, and infrastructure-as-code technologies/processes.

• Experience building and operating global-scale large platform services which +100M users rely on

• Experience establishing and improving data-driven infrastructure and service KPIs such as performance, scale, availability, resilience, security.

• A strong understanding of security best practices and a high bar for protecting customer data.

• Experience in collaborating with external partners to create safe and scalable mechanisms to share or move customer data with accuracy and resiliency.

• Experience working across cross-functional engineering teams as stakeholders and partners consuming a global platform service.

• Effective communication skills, empathy, leading by example, and the ability to influence and drive change in a diverse and inclusive environment.

• Experience working with different cultures, regions, and company functions.

• Demonstrated experience with building systems using agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or similar).

• Prior experience building and operating a high scale customer facing commerce system is a nice to have.
