Responsibilities

The Reporting & Performance (R&P) department is responsible for delivering best-in-class, technology-enabled analysis and reporting to Oaktree’s investors, both current and prospective, and to our investment professionals and organizational partners globally. The Vice President of Investment Performance will serve as a subject matter expert on the instruments and markets Oaktree participates in with an emphasis on credit. The incumbent will work closely with deal teams and our middle and back office to ensure investment transactions accurately reflect their economic substance, in accordance with booking guidelines.The incumbent will work with cross-functional business partners to continually enhance the data (quantitative and qualitative), processes, and technology underpinning investment performance, which forms a critical part of our investor reporting and fundraising collateral. Beyond managing investment performance reporting for Oaktree’s private fund strategies, the incumbent will also work closely with our performance attribution and GIPS team in support of Oaktree’s liquid credit strategies.Responsibilities include:Reporting & Analysis
  • Establish and advance systems and processes to prepare, review, and deliver investment performance metrics, extracts, and reports for Oaktree constituents globally;
  • Oversee the timely and accurate production and delivery of analyses, dashboards and reports for Oaktree’s portfolios on a recurring and ad-hoc basis globally to the portfolio management, current and prospective investors, consultants, and other stakeholders globally;
    • Compile data and update portfolio quantitative reports on an ad hoc and recurring basis
    • Create bespoke analyses leveraging existing resources to respond to ad hoc requests from current and prospective investors, including those required for requests for proposals (RFPs)
    • Lead the R&P team’s fundraise support activities across Oaktree’s strategies, ensuring successful and timely completion and delivery of performance-related data
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Oaktree investment performance and resource to R&P APAC and organizational partners globally; and
  • Master in-house system technology to learn to source data and create new data extracts to efficiently respond to data requests.
Technology Enablement
  • Utilize Python, SQL and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) to manage and manipulate large data sets, and create standardized reports or dashboards; and
  • Lead the implementation of process changes, automated reports and technology systems to generate standard and recurring investor reporting as well as dynamic performance and portfolio metrics and insights.
Partnership & Innovation
  • Collaborate and manage relationships with organizational partners to produce and advance R&P deliverables, who include: Investment/Portfolio Management Team, Product Specialists, Investor Relations, Marketing and business development, Accounting, IT, and Compliance;
  • Identify and capture opportunities to create superior data solutions and build efficiencies through process and technological improvements;
  • Lead team and region-wide tactical projects through collaboration with other team members and key stakeholders; and
  • Evolve investment performance reporting suite in response to, and in anticipation of, new strategies, investor needs and industry trends in concert with R&P senior leadership.
Data Validation
  • Partner with Data and Reporting team to validate and enrich quantitative and qualitative deal-data throughout the investment life cycle, working closely with business partners to rectify any errors;
  • Partner with Investment Operations, Fund Accounting, and other groups involved in investment transaction processing to review and enhance booking guidelines and related controls over investment transactions, valuations, and performance, and:
  • Ensure accurate, complete, reliable, and investor-ready investment performance data is available for use across the reporting suite in accordance with internal SLAs;
Team Leader & Management
  • Hire, develop and manage staff in alignment with R&P standards, including providing or coordinating new hire and continuing education training, clearly setting performance expectations and ensuring a continuous feedback loop around such;
  • Manage the resourcing requirements and staffing model (assignments, primary and backup coverage, etc.) of the R&P APAC – Investment Performance team to ensure appropriate and scalable coverage of Oaktree’s strategies and reporting programs; and
  • Proactively monitor the performance of the R&P APAC – Investment Performance team through quantitative measures and input from internal constituents regarding the quality of the team’s deliverables, incorporating insights/feedback into team routines and/or new processes or tools.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience at an asset management company (preferably targeting institutional investors), investment bank or other financial services company
  • 6+ years of experience managing both operations and personnel
  • Deep knowledge of alternative investments broadly as well as specific knowledge of relevant reporting/dashboard outputs and metrics including performance reporting, risk metrics and portfolio characteristics
  • Experience utilizing Python, SQL and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI)
  • Outstanding communication skills to work cross-functionally and at all levels internally
  • Basic understanding of project management software such as Jira, Confluence a plus
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and concepts
  • Available to work during portions of U.S. PST working hours and India IST working hours to interface with key stakeholders.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required. Chartered Accountant license and/or CFA/CIPM/MBA finance a plus.
