Key Responsibilities:
Controllership & Accounting
- Own month-end and weekly close for multiple entities (ASPE), including bank/credit card reconciliations, accruals, intercompany entries, eliminations, and consolidations.
 - Establish and enforce SOPs for AP, AR, expense management, and documentation (no source doc = no pay).
 - Maintain a clean general ledger, audit-ready documentation, and a tight chart of accounts across entities.

Subcontractors, Payroll & Commissions
- Design and run scalable subcontractor commission workflows (setter/closer tagging, approvals, variance checks).
 - Oversee weekly payroll cycles and subcontractor payouts; implement “no exceptions without documentation” controls.
 - Coordinate with the team for on-site queries while shifting processes to standardized, virtual workflows.

Compliance (Multi-Jurisdiction)
- Manage GST/HST, provincial WorkSafe/WSIB/WCB registrations, filings, and reconciliations.
 - Implement segregation of duties and anti-cash controls; lead remediation to reduce/replace cash handling.
 - Support audit and regulatory inquiries with organized evidence and defensible processes.

Systems, Data & Reporting
- Lead stack implementation and optimization: QuickBooks Online Advanced, Dext, Plooto (and payroll platform).
 - Build reliable data flows from sales → invoices → commissions → payouts → GL.
 - Produce weekly operational dashboards and monthly controller packs (P&L, BS, CF, margins, job/region profitability, KPIs).

Policy, Controls & Change Management
- Translate business chaos into clear procedures; hold teams accountable to deadlines and documentation.
 - Train client admins/sales leaders on the “single source of truth” and consistent national policies.
 - Act as the finance gatekeeper: set expectations, push back when needed, and protect process integrity.

Leadership & Collaboration
- Mentor a small delivery pod (onsite liaison) dedicated to this account.
 - Communicate proactively with client executives (concise memos, clear options).

Success Metrics (90-Day Outcomes)
- 30 days: SOPs drafted; entity-by-entity gap assessment; weekly close cadence live for top-volume entities (2).
 - 60 days: Commission workflow (setter/closer) live; payment controls & documentation SLA at >95% on-time.
 - 90 days: Consolidated monthly reporting package live; GST/WorkSafe calendars automated; exception rate down >70%; onsite reliance reduced as virtual processes stabilize.

Qualification and requirements:
- 7+ years progressive accounting experience, including multi-entity controllership (public or industry).
 - Strong command of ASPE, consolidations, intercompany, and high-volume reconciliations.
 - Experience with Canadian sales tax (GST/HST) and provincial WorkSafe/WSIB/WCB compliance.
 - Certified QuickBooks Online Advanced (classes/locations, custom fields, approvals); Dext and Plooto proficiency.
 - Advanced Excel (Power Query, pivots, reconciliations, data validation).
 - CPA (completed or in progress) preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Nice to Have
- Field services / construction / solar industry exposure (job costing, progress billing, subcontractors).
 - Payroll platform experience (QBO Payroll or Sage Desktop Payroll).
 - BI/reporting tools (Looker Studio, Power BI) for controller dashboards.

Skills & Competencies
- Process architect: designs simple, enforceable workflows and sticks to them.
 - Firm but fair communicator; comfortable saying “no” when controls require it.
 - Bias to action; thrives in fast-moving, entrepreneurial environments.
 - High attention to detail with a weekly cadence mindset (not “month-end only”).
 - Professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all client matters.

Non-negotiable skills & requirements:
- 7+ years progressive accounting experience, including multi-entity controllership (public or industry).
 - Strong command of ASPE, consolidations, intercompany, and high-volume reconciliations.
 - Experience with Canadian sales tax (GST/HST) and provincial WorkSafe/WSIB/WCB compliance.
