Services Offered
: The team offers a comprehensive set of services, including design of road features and geometrics, modeling, RRRAP (Road Restraints Risk Assessment Programme), traffic signs and road markings, earthworks, drainage design, SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems), BIM (Building Information Modeling), production of drawings, technical specifications, and reports. We also offer services in roads operations and maintenance projects, project management services on projects and frameworks, design visualization, photomontage, motion graphics, video, and multimedia.

Role Description
: The Technical Lead will collaborate with team members in India and spearheads in the UK to offer technical expertise on projects by utilising their operational leadership and management skills. Your proficiency in the road industry of the UK, coupled with your capacity for innovative thinking, will be required to ascertain the underlying causes of the problems. Ensuring technical prowess, compliance with regulations, and efficient project management are integral components of this position in order to satisfy the expanding requirements of a contemporary and environmentally conscious road infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Role SummaryAs the Technical Head – Roads, you will lead the charge in delivering cutting-edge engineering solutions while guiding a team of skilled professionals. Your role will encompass:
- Providing visionary leadership to a high-performing team of road design engineers.
- Managing all technical dimensions of road infrastructure projects.
- Driving innovation and engineering excellence across project lifecycles.
- Offering expert guidance and support for road design and related technical activities.
- Supervising and mentoring engineers in assessing surveys and preparing road designs.
- Ensuring adherence to UK standards such as DMRB, MCHW, and BS codes.
- Delivering projects on schedule, within budget, and to top-tier quality benchmarks.
- Supporting technical aspects of demolition, site clearance, utilities, and infrastructure works for infrastructure developments.
- Serving as a technical liaison across regional teams in India and the UK.
- Strengthening client relationships, enhancing team capabilities, and contributing to business development.
- Overseeing project management functions including forecasting, resource planning, and commercial governance.
- Ensuring technical quality and compliance of all roads deliverables in coordination with UK governance teams.
- Collaborating with project directors and managers to align technical inputs with project goals and client expectations.
- Assisting resource teams with bid preparation and strategic pursuits to allocate adequate resources meeting scope and client requirements.
- Leading performance reviews, promotions, and professional development for team members.
- Drive Technical Leadership Group initiatives and conduct periodic town halls to strengthen technical profile of team in compliance to the UK industry requirements
- Fostering a culture of continuous learning, mentorship, and grow technical skills meeting industry requirements.
You will work closely with the UK Technical Leadership Group (TLG), including the UK GCC SBU Head, Operations Director, Regional and Project Directors, and the Business Development team within the T&I Strategic Business Unit and the broader WSP UK/global network.
Qualifications
- Educated to Bachelor / Master’s degree level in a Highways related discipline such as Civil Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status of a recognised professional institution (e.g. ICE, CIHT) is preferred.
- Substantial experience in managing large-scale structural projects.
- Possess a solid understanding of various contract forms to effectively manage project scope and associated design responsibilities
- Seasoned professional with at least 20 years’ experience in design and management of UK roads, project management, project delivery or in leadership in a consulting engineering environment.
