Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Senior Manager - Purchase (Mechanical Engineering Only) located in Vasai, Maharashtra. The Senior Manager will be responsible for overseeing the procurement process, ensuring the timely acquisition of materials and components, managing supplier relationships, and negotiating contracts. Day-to-day tasks include evaluating supplier performance, coordinating with the manufacturing and engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with quality standards and company policies.


Academic qualification:

  • Essential:

    Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Desired:

    Master's degree (MBA or similar).


Experience:

  • Relevant:

    10 to 12 years in procurement or purchasing within a manufacturing environment, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.


Soft skills/ Competencies required:

  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of supply chain management, inventory control, and procurement software (e.g., SAP).
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong understanding of procurement laws and regulations.


Primary Responsibilities

Procurement Strategy Development:

  • Develop and implement a strategic purchasing plan in alignment with the company’s production and financial goals.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement measures to improve the procurement process.
  • Forecast purchasing needs based on production schedules and market conditions.

Supplier Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to ensure optimal value.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary to improve quality and delivery.

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, train, and manage a team of procurement professionals.
  • Assign tasks, set performance goals, and ensure team members meet deadlines and targets.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment to achieve company procurement goals.

Inventory and Supply Chain Management:

  • Oversee inventory levels to ensure that materials are available without excessive stockpiling.
  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate with the production team to avoid shortages or overstocking.
  • Ensure timely delivery of goods to maintain production schedules.

Cost Management:

  • Monitor and manage the procurement budget, ensuring that purchasing costs are controlled.
  • Review and approve purchase orders, ensuring that cost-effective decisions are made.
  • Conduct regular market research to ensure competitive pricing and identify cost-saving initiatives.

Quality Control and Compliance:

  • Ensure that all materials and supplies meet the required quality standards and specifications.
  • Implement quality control processes for incoming goods.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to purchasing and materials management.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on procurement activities, budgets, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Use data and analytics to improve decision-making and provide insight into purchasing trends.
  • Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and price fluctuations to anticipate supply chain challenges.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential supply chain risks and develop contingency plans to minimize disruptions.
  • Manage supplier relationships to ensure stability and mitigate the impact of market or political changes.
