About Aangan Trust

Aangan works to prevent harm to children in dangerous and difficult situations by strengthening community and system-based responses. We are active in hotspots of child harm across India, working with government bodies, frontline workers, communities and young people to ensure children’s safety, justice, and well-being.


Position Summary

The Head of Finance plays a critical leadership role at Aangan, overseeing all financial, regulatory, and compliance functions. This includes accounting, budget development and monitoring, donor reporting, audit readiness, internal controls, and ensuring compliance with statutory and FCRA regulations. The Finance Head also supports cross-functional teams across states to ensure financial literacy, compliance, and control are embedded in daily operations.


While providing monitoring support with­ file management, correspondence drafting, funding program support, and ensuring assets in the head office and state offices are managed and maintained.


This is a hands-on role that combines strategic oversight with operational depth—ideal for someone who can work across the boardroom and the balance sheet.


Key responsibilities

Financial Management & Accounting

  • Lead and supervise all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, ledger maintenance, income recognition, and bank reconciliations.
  • Oversee and ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Prepare annual organizational budgets and periodic forecasts; monitor budget vs actuals and flag variances.
  • Maintain up-to-date books of accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant statutory requirements.
  • Maintain clear documentation of all financial transactions and ensure timely closure of books.


Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements including FCRA, Income Tax, GST, and audits.
  • Manage regulatory filings, FCRA renewals, and other registrations.
  • Implement internal financial controls and safeguard organizational assets across multiple offices.
  • Monitor adherence to donor-specific compliance and reporting guidelines.


Audit & Reporting

  • Liaise with internal and statutory auditors, ensuring timely preparation of audit schedules and resolution of audit findings.
  • Maintain readiness for donor, statutory, and internal audits at all times.
  • Support program and fundraising teams with donor financial reporting, budget narratives, and proposal budgeting.


Procurement & Asset Oversight

  • Ensure that procurement policies are adhered to across all state offices.
  • Maintain records and oversight of asset inventory, including depreciation, transfers, and physical verification.


Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide financial orientation to new staff and build financial awareness across the team.
  • Lead a lean finance team, nurturing talent and building capacity.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to leadership on financial planning, sustainability, and risk.
  • Collaborate with program leads, HR, and operations for integrated planning and execution.


Administrative Support

  • Support administrative systems related to financial file management, contracts, correspondence, and reimbursements.
  • Ensure smooth communication and data flow between head office and state teams.


What do you bring?

·      CA / ICWA / MBA (Finance) or equivalent qualification.

·      10+ years of experience in accounting and finance, with 3+ years in a leadership role.

·      Strong understanding of FCRA, Income Tax laws, and other Indian NGO regulatory frameworks.

·      Hands-on experience with accounting software (Tally/Zoho/QuickBooks/etc.).

·      Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

·      Experience working with donors (national and international) preferred.

·      High integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive approach.
