CivicDataLab (CDL) works at the intersection of data, technology, design and social science to strengthen access to public information, evidence-based decision making and citizen participation in governance. CDL harnesses the potential of open knowledge movements to strengthen the data-for-public-good ecosystem and enable citizens to engage in matters of public reform. We work closely with governments, non-profits, think-tanks, and universities to enhance their data and technology capacity to better data-driven decision-making at scale.

What we are looking for

CivicDataLab is seeking a Senior Associate to support our ongoing programs in disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and open data systems. This role will focus on strengthening program operations, coordinating between internal and external teams, and contributing to research and proposal development for emerging climate - data initiatives.

We are looking for someone who is a natural problem-solver and collaborator, comfortable working with multiple teams (data, policy, partnerships) while ensuring that program deliverables move smoothly from idea to implementation.

At CivicDataLab, we use data, technology, design, and social science to strengthen civic engagement and evidence-based decision-making. This role will be central to ensuring the coherence, quality, and growth of our climate resilience portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  Support the coordination and implementation of ongoing programs in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.

• 
  Serve as a key link between technical (data/engineering), policy, and partnership teams to ensure smooth workflows across workstreams.

• 
  Conduct research, documentation, and analysis for ongoing and upcoming projects.

• 
  Contribute to proposal development, including drafting concept notes, budgets, timelines, and partner outreach materials.

• 
  Coordinate inputs for donor and partner reporting, ensuring quality, timeliness, and alignment with project standards.

• 
  Support the design and dissemination of data-driven dashboards, reports, and insights.

• 
  Facilitate internal review meetings, track milestones, and maintain documentation repositories.

• 
  Liaise with external stakeholders such as government agencies, multi-lateral partners, and civil society organisations.

  Skills you should bring

• 
  Fluency in English and excellent writing and communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex ideas clearly across technical and non-technical audiences.

  Strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, plan timelines, and meet deadlines.

  Ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including through presentations.

• 
  Postgraduate degree in Environmental Studies, Disaster Management, Public Policy, Development Studies, or related fields.

• 
  2–3 years of relevant experience in climate resilience, disaster management, or development-sector consulting.

• 
  Strong analytical and documentation skills; experience drafting reports, proposals, or concept notes.

• 
  Experience engaging with government bodies or international development partners is desirable.

• 
  Organised, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• 
  Good to have

• 
  Exposure to open data platforms, digital public goods, or civic-tech projects.

• 
  An understanding of climate–health, social protection, or urban resilience domains.

• 
  Familiarity with data and visualisation tools (Excel, Power BI, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, etc.) is preferred.

How we work

CivicDataLab has its base location in Delhi, while having satellite offices in Assam and Himachal Pradesh. We follow a hybrid model where our bandhus work out of the office for a minimum of 3 days a week. We use open-source tools and agile methodologies in organising our work.

Professional growth and development Allowance

At CivicDataLab, we encourage everyone to take up things that help one grow professionally, and you get an annual kitty of INR 60,000 to do so. This includes attending or speaking at conferences and workshops, taking courses, acquiring hardware or software licenses or even joining summer schools. We feel that learning a skill should never be a hurdle to solving important problems for the community.

The entire hiring process averages between 3-4 weeks and consists of five simple steps:

  You apply with your detailed portfolio/CV and a cover letter

  We have an introductory discussion

• 
  Based on how our discussion goes, we will give you a take-home assignment

• 
  We meet, ideally in a week, to discuss the assignment

• 
  If all goes well, we will have a final ‘Culture Discussion’ round, and you get to meet the rest of the team

Note: Our hiring process works in weekly cycles, where we will collect the applications every week and start the funnel for the selected candidates together in subsequent weeks. Please expect a response within 7-14 days of your application.
