Job DescriptionWe’re thrilled to announce that, due to recent project wins, an exciting role has opened up across our team, of which are available to start immediatelyWe’re particularly interested in hearing from candidates with strong data center experience, so if this is your area of expertise, we’d love to connect.The role of the Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will be characterized by both dynamism and entrepreneurship and will necessitate a sharp eye for detail and effective communication skills. The successful candidate will have the requisite technical expertise and project management experience to oversee and carry out efficient delivery of projects across datacenter’s .
Responsibilities
- Mechanical Systems Commissioning: Oversee the end-to-end commissioning of mechanical systems, including HVAC, chillers, air handling units (AHU), CRAC units, and cooling towers.
- Critical Environment Oversight: Actively operating from and attending site, ensure the successful commissioning of mechanical systems essential for data centre operations, including redundancy, uptime, and environmental control.
- Testing & Validation: Write test scripts and lead Functional Performance Testing (FPT) and Integrated System Testing (IST) of mechanical systems to ensure they meet operational criteria, including managing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for mechanical equipment and systems.
- Design Reviews: Review specifications and designs at various stages of development from a commission ability perspective and submit reports. Review and comment on vendors technical submittals.
- PHE Expertise: Knowledge and commissioning experience of PHE will be an added advantage.
- BMS/ EPMS Knowledge: Knowledge of BMS and EPMS is required to check integration with all the field equipment and handle these systems during Integrated System Testing (IST).
- Project Planning & Coordination: Work closely with project management, construction teams, engineers, and contractors to ensure that mechanical commissioning is carried out according to project timelines and client specifications.
- Documentation & Reporting: Develop and maintain commissioning plans, procedures, testing protocols, checklists, snag/ punch list and project handover documentation. Provide regular updates to project stakeholders, highlighting progress, risks, and issues.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all mechanical systems comply with relevant industry standards and codes (e.g., ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, NFPA). Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations throughout the commissioning process. Knowledge of LEED certification and enhanced commissioning in buildings will be an added advantage.
- Troubleshooting & Problem Solving: Identify, diagnose, and resolve mechanical issues encountered during the commissioning phase, ensuring minimal impact on project timelines and performance.
- System Integration: Collaborate with electrical and IT commissioning teams to ensure mechanical systems are fully integrated with electrical and monitoring/control systems.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain a strong focus on safety, ensuring that all commissioning activities follow health and safety regulations. Conduct safety briefings and risk assessments as needed.
- Leadership & Team Management: Lead a team of commissioning engineers, subcontractors, and vendors, providing clear direction and support throughout the commissioning process.
Qualifications
- Perform all responsibilities associated with the Commissioning Validation/management process for Mechanical and controls systems - heavy mechanical bias.
- Meet project deadlines and assist in managing clients and project teams involving regular communication, monitoring, and reporting.
- Responsible for the technical quality, accuracy, and managerial aspects of multiple projects
- Responsible for planning for project activities, forecasting, keeping accurate records and client liaisons
- Development of Technical Specifications and checklists at various stages of commissioning.
- Perform Design reviews and technical submittal reviews for large and/or complex projects/building systems and create, for example, pre-functional check-list commissioning forms
- Review and evaluate DDC control system sequences of operations, and develop detailed functional testing procedures for large and/or complex building systems and datacenters.
- Perform technical audit and document inspection report of large and/or complex building systems and witness and document equipment/systems start-up, air and water balance activities, pre-functional testing including controls point to point/calibrations, training and perform component level and integrated system functional performance testing
- Produce technical and non-technical reports on field activities
- Develop systems manuals, re-commissioning plans, and final commissioning reports
- Review, organise and manage project documentation
- Use of Cloud Platforms (Google, Microsoft, Amazon) and Data Analytics
- AutoCAD / BIM / Visio
- RIBA/AIA Stages of Work or international equivalents
- Construction Projects and Contracting
- Systems Testing & Commissioning, FDD and Automated Commissioning System
Essential Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B. Tech/ B.E. or equivalent)
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in testing & commissioning of complete mechanical systems including HVAC, Chillers, Cooling Towers, AHUs, FCUs and CRAC units.
- Minimum 5 years Experience of commissioning datacenter and similar mission critical facilities with demonstrable reference of leading ISTs.
