Logistics Manager
logistics in the chemical industry
Key Responsibilities:
1. Import Coordination (India Focused)
- Manage end-to-end import processes for raw materials and chemicals, including coordination with
CHA (Customs House Agents)
, freight forwarders, and global suppliers. - Ensure timely documentation and clearance at Indian ports (e.g., Nhava Sheva), including preparation and submission of:
Bill of Entry
Commercial Invoices
Packing Lists
HS Codes classification
DGFT licenses (if applicable)
- Ensure compliance with Indian import regulations including
Customs Act, BIS certifications (if applicable), DGFT guidelines
, and hazardous goods clearance (as per IMDG/IATA norms)
.
2. Production & Inventory Support
- Be the bridge between
Sales team
and production to ensure material is produced and delivered on time to customers. - Align inbound logistics with the
production plan
to ensure raw materials are available without delays. - Oversee 3PL warehouse’s safe handling, storage, and issuance of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Manage stock holding levels in coordination with regional Supply Chain team to ensure sufficient safety stocks of materials are maintained.
- Maintain accurate stock levels in
ERP (Netsuite)
and coordinate with the production team for material movement and reconciliation.
3. Invoicing & Dispatch
- Oversee preparation of
GST-compliant tax invoices
, delivery challans, and e-way bills as per Indian statutory requirements. - Coordinate with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate invoicing and input tax credit (ITC) reconciliation.
- Ensure documentation accuracy for outbound shipments (both inter- and intra-state), including
transport documentation and Lorry Receipts (LRs)
.
4. Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with
Indian laws and safety regulations
for the transportation and storage of chemicals (e.g., Factories Act
, Hazardous Waste Rules
, Pollution Control Board guidelines
, etc.). - Maintain documentation required for audits by
GST authorities, Excise (legacy), Customs, Pollution Control Board
, and other regulatory bodies. - Implement SOPs for safe handling and transportation of dangerous goods (DG).
5. Vendor & Team Management
- Manage and evaluate third-party logistics partners, transporters, customs brokers, and warehousing partners.
- Negotiate freight contracts and ensure cost control while maintaining delivery timelines and service levels.
Core Competencies:
Chemical Industry Logistics
- Experience in logistics for bulk and specialty chemicals, including DG cargo and tankers.
Indian Import/Export Regulation Knowledge
- Hands-on experience with Indian customs, DGFT procedures, ICEGATE portal, and BIS compliance.
GST & Invoicing Compliance
- Proficiency in Indian GST rules, e-way bill generation, and tax invoice documentation.
ERP & Documentation Systems
- Proficient in ERP systems (Netsuite or similar), MS Excel, and digital logistics portals.
Inventory & Production Coordination
- Ability to sync inbound logistics and warehousing with production and dispatch needs.
Problem Solving & Process Improvement
- Strong analytical and process optimization skills to manage logistics cost, lead times, and accuracy.
People Management & Communication
- Leadership ability to manage cross-functional teams and communicate effectively across departments.
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
- Knowledge of HSE standards applicable to chemical logistics in India.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in
Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Chemical Engineering
, or related field. 5–8 years
of experience in logistics within the chemical or manufacturing sector
, preferably in India.- Strong understanding of
import documentation, customs clearance, GST invoicing, and DG cargo handling
. - Certifications in
Hazardous Materials Handling
, EXIM procedures
, or SCM
(e.g., APICS, IIMM, IATA-DGR) will be an added advantage. - Proficiency in
English, Hindi, and Marathi
preferred for effective coordination in the Pune region.
Location & Work Conditions:
- Based at
corporate office in Pune
, with periodic visits to warehouses, ports, and regulatory bodies as required. - Must be flexible to handle time-sensitive import clearances and coordination outside standard working hours, when needed.
