We are seeking an experienced and passionate Genral Manager for Ice Rink Operations and Academy Management and to oversee the complete management, maintenance, and development of India's premier Olympic-sized indoor ice rink – the Himadri Ice Rink in Dehradun. This role combines technical facility management with program leadership, including running a skating/ice hockey academy and supporting league events, training camps, and competitions. The ideal candidate will ensure safe, efficient operations while promoting winter sports growth in Uttarakhand, including ice skating, figure skating, short track speed skating, and ice hockey.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Management and Maintenance:
Oversee daily operations of the Olympic-sized (60m x 30m) indoor ice rink, including ice quality, resurfacing (e.g., using Zamboni or equivalent), temperature control, and refrigeration systems.
Schedule and perform routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of the rink surface, dasher boards, glass, locker rooms, spectator areas, and ancillary facilities.
Monitor energy usage (e.g., solar plant integration) and ensure compliance with safety standards, health regulations, and environmental guidelines.
Manage equipment inventory, including skates, protective gear, and maintenance tools; coordinate procurement and vendor relationships.
Academy Management:
Lead and develop the ice skating and ice hockey academy, including designing training programs for beginners, youth, and advanced skaters.
Recruit, train, and supervise coaches/instructors; organize classes, camps, and skill development sessions (e.g., for figure skating, short track, and ice hockey).
Promote academy enrollment, handle registrations (including nominal fees), and track participant progress.
Foster talent development to support national-level competitions and potential pathways to events like Khelo India or international tournaments.
League and Event Support:
Assist in organizing and hosting league matches, tournaments, training camps, and events (e.g., national championships, coach/referee training, or potential ice hockey leagues).
Coordinate scheduling for public skating sessions, private bookings, hockey games, and special events.
Collaborate with federations (e.g., Ice Skating Association of India, Ice Hockey Association of India) for event planning, logistics, and officiating.
Team Leadership and Administration:
Hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff (e.g., ice technicians, front desk, custodians, and instructors).
Manage budgets, financial reporting, and cost control for operations and programs.
Handle customer service, resolve issues, and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for visitors, athletes, and families.
Prepare reports on facility usage, program performance, and maintenance needs.
Marketing and Community Engagement:
Promote the rink and academy through social media, partnerships, and outreach to schools/tourists.
Develop initiatives to increase public participation and position Dehradun as a winter sports hub.
Qualifications and Requirements
Masters or Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Facility Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
Prefer 3–5 years of experience in ice rink/arena operations, preferably with refrigeration/ice maintenance knowledge.
Ex servicemen or candidates from Defence background are preferred.
Experience in coaching or managing skating/hockey programs; certification in ice sports (e.g., from IIHF or national bodies) is a plus.
Strong technical skills: Familiarity with ice resurfacing equipment, HVAC/refrigeration systems, and safety protocols.
Leadership experience: Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and events.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Passion for winter sports and promoting athletics in India.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of ice hockey/short track/figure skating rules and development programs.
Experience hosting tournaments or training camps.
Basic Hindi/English proficiency for local communication.
