Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee our client’s organization’s financial operations, reporting, budgeting, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Canadian accounting standards, GAAP, and QuickBooks Online, along with the capability to manage complex financial processes. This role requires strategic leadership, deep analytical capability, and the ability to maintain accuracy and integrity across all financial functions.

Core Responsibilities

. Manage Accounting Operations

• Oversee daily accounting functions, including billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management.
• Ensure smooth and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

• Oversee the preparation and publication of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure full compliance with Canadian GAAP, ASPE/IFRS, and other relevant standards.
• Prepare regulatory, audit, and compliance-related reports.
• Maintain high-quality control over all financial data and reporting processes.

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Lead preparation of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts.
• Monitor actual performance vs. budget and provide detailed variance analysis.
• Support management decision-making with accurate financial insights.

Advanced Financial Analysis

• Perform complex financial analyses to support strategic decision-making.
• Conduct variance analysis, trend analysis, forecasting, and scenario modeling.
• Prepare and deliver financial reports and presentations for senior leadership and executives.

Ad-Hoc & Strategic Support

• Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis for special projects, business initiatives, and strategic planning.
• Support executive management with data-driven insights and recommendations.

Process Improvement & Tools Optimization

• Continuously evaluate financial models, spreadsheets, and analytical tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Recommend and implement improvements to accounting systems and internal controls.
• Optimize use of QuickBooks Online and integrated tools (e.g., Dext, HubDoc).

Feasibility Studies & Opportunity Assessment

• Perform feasibility studies to evaluate new opportunities, business expansion, and investment decisions.
• Assess risks, financial viability, and potential ROI for proposed initiatives.

Leadership & Oversight

• Supervise and mentor the finance and accounting team.
• Work closely with auditors (internal and external) to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or senior leadership.

Qualifications & Skills

Must-Have

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA Canada or pursuing CPA is an asset).
• 5–8 years of progressive accounting/financial management experience, including Canadian accounting experience.
• Strong expertise in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP, ASPE/IFRS, and Canadian reporting requirements.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

Technical Skills

• Advanced skills in QuickBooks Online.
• Highly proficient in Excel/Google Sheets (Pivot Tables, Lookups, financial modeling).
• Familiarity with financial automation tools (Dext, HubDoc, QBO plugins).

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
• Leadership skills and the ability to manage a finance team effectively.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
