Job Description (JD) – CMM OperatorPosition: CMM Operator Department: Quality Control Location: Shop Floor / QC Lab Reporting To: Quality Manager / QC Head Role PurposeTo perform accurate dimensional inspection of components, fixtures, and assemblies using Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), ensuring compliance with engineering drawings, GD&T standards, and customer quality requirements. Key ResponsibilitiesOperate CMM machines (Manual / CNC) for inspection of machined parts, jigs, fixtures, and BIW components. Program and execute inspection routines using CMM software (PolyWorks ). Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, tolerance stack-ups, and customer specifications. Conduct first article inspection (FAI), in-process inspection, and final inspection. Prepare and maintain CMM inspection reports, dimensional layouts, and deviation reports. Verify critical features such as flatness, perpendicularity, concentricity, profile, and positional tolerances. Ensure proper fixturing and alignment of components on CMM before measurement. Perform routine calibration checks and basic maintenance of CMM probes and accessories. Coordinate with Production, Design, and Engineering teams for dimensional clarifications and corrective actions. Support customer inspections, audits, and PPAP submissions as required. Maintain traceability and comply with ISO 9001:2015 quality standards. Follow safety, housekeeping, and 5S practices in QC area. Skills & CompetenciesStrong knowledge of GD&T as per ISO / ASME standards. Hands-on experience with CMM programming and operation. Ability to read and understand complex manufacturing drawings. Familiarity with fixture inspection and automotive standards (NAAMS / BIW preferred). Proficiency in MS Excel for report preparation. Attention to detail and analytical thinking. Good communication skills for inter-department coordination. Educational QualificationDiploma / ITI / BE / BTech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Certified CMM training is an added advantage. Experience Required2 to 6 years of experience in CMM operation within precision manufacturing / tool room / automotive fixture industry. Experience with aluminium and steel machined components preferred. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Accuracy and repeatability of inspection results. Timely completion of inspection reports. Reduction in dimensional rejections and rework. Compliance with customer and audit requirements. Working ConditionsShop floor and QC lab environment. May require extended hours during customer audits or critical project deliveries.
