About The Team

The compliance testing team operates as an independent function within the broader compliance framework. This team is responsible for accessing the effectiveness of controls and processes to meet regulatory obligations. The team conducts targeted reviews across business lines and functions, identifies potential compliance gaps and works with the business functions on guiding them with remediations. By leveraging deep regulatory knowledge and analytical rigor, the team plays a critical role in promoting a culture of compliance and supporting the banks’ risk management objectives

Impact

The Associate Director, Compliance Testing is a leadership role and is responsible for effectively leading the compliance testing team. He/She would have accountability for overall performance of the compliance substantive transaction and controls (design/operating effectiveness) testing performed by this team, including schedule coordination with, the US based Compliance Testing Senior Managers, ensuring team productivity, seamless service delivery, quality and effective people engagement. Additionally, the Assoc Director will assist with ad hoc and special projects (e.g. supporting data analytics effort, assisting in monitoring report design) leveraging the local team’s expertise.In this role, the Associate Director has the opportunity to support the annual compliance testing schedule conducted by the 2nd LOD Compliance Testing, while identifying risks that could impede the scalability of testing function.The role is also responsible for building the risk culture of a well-managed organization in line with guidance by Compliance Testing & Analytics (CTA) management that adheres to Compliance Testing Methodology.

Key Deliverables

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the annual plan
  • Oversee the daily execution of operational effectiveness testing of key compliance controls identified in the compliance reviews conducted by the 2nd LOD Compliance Testing team
  • Manage resources in order to meet budgeted hours and timeline dictated by the annual testing schedule.
  • Coordinate with other Managers to ensure review timelines are aligned
  • Review the testing workpapers produced by individual testers to ensure the quality and consistency of work is in alignment with CTA testing methodology
  • Clearly document the results of testing performed
  • Provide guidance and training to the team on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide recommendations to the leadership on program enhancements for continuous improvement

Functional Skills

Skills and Qualification

  • Experience and understanding, including assessment of risks and controls, a minimum of 15+ with a financial services organization.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and communication skills for collaboration, reporting, and documentation of findings.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team, meet deadlines, and pivot as priorities shift.
  • Ability to identify and provide feedback regarding process improvements and potential risks.

Technical/Business Skills

  • Experience and understanding of policies, including Operational, Regulatory and Credit, and supporting processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of the US regulatory, legal and compliance frameworks impacting the financial services industry.
  • Experience of reviewing processes, procedures and controls including evidence of compliance.
  • Experience of performing assurance activities including substantive transaction and controls testing.
  • Experience of working in one of the three lines of defense within a financial services organization.

Leadership Qualities

  • Strong leadership skills including coaching and guiding team, providing performance feedback, leading team through periods of change and transition, and ability to build strong relationships within the team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, execute against priorities in a timely manner, and adapt to priority shifts.

Relationships & Collaboration

  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with business partners through strong communication and a proactive approach to problem solving and identifying risks.
