Senior Auditor – Stock Audit (Fashion/Textile)

Role Purpose
The Senior Auditor (Stock Audit) will be responsible for planning, executing and reporting audits of stock/inventory in the fashion/textile business — including warehouses, stores, production inputs (fabric, accessories), finished goods — with a focus on verifying actual vs book, identifying variances, losses, process controls, and recommending improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop annual/quarterly stock audit plan in coordination with audit leadership, covering warehouses, stores, production locations, returns and obsolete inventory.
- Conduct physical stock verification: reconcile physical counts with ERP/book records; verify raw materials, work-in-progress, finished goods, accessories, rejects and wastage.
- Analyse variances (shortages, excesses) and prepare detailed audit reports with root cause, quantitative impact, and recommendations.
- Review stock movement, issuance, receipt, returns and transfers (store to store, warehouse to store, production to warehouse) to ensure proper documentation, authorisation and system update.
- Verify depreciation/write-off/obsolescence policies for inventory and ensure appropriate provisioning.
- Evaluate internal controls over inventory: receiving, storage, issuance, scrap, waste, cycle counts, monthly reconciliations.
- Coordinate with accounts/finance teams for stock valuation, impairment, inventory ageing and provisions.
- Liaise with store/warehouse/production teams to understand handling, storage, labeling, lot control, SKU rationalisation.
- Prepare MIS/ dashboards showing inventory health: slow-moving, obsolete, dead stock, shrinkage trends, variances by location/style.
- Follow up on previous audit findings and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Assist in training junior auditors or store/warehouse staff on stock audit best practices and internal control awareness.
- Support special investigations in case of suspected inventory pilferage, excess, misstatement.
- Adhere to audit quality standards, confidentiality and ethical behaviour.
Candidate Profile / Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting or equivalent (a postgraduate degree or certification (e.g., CWA/CA inter/ CMA) is a plus).
- 3-5 years of experience in stock/inventory audit, preferably in the fashion/retail/textile industry (if you want a senior role).
- Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, stock valuation methods, ERP systems (e.g., Tally, SAP, Oracle, or similar) and MS Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups).
- Good understanding of the fashion/retail supply chain: raw materials, fabric/trim, manufacturing, warehousing, stores, finished goods.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and ability to identify process risks and control gaps.
- Good communication and report writing skills (Hindi & English) to present findings and liaise with cross-functional teams.
- High level of integrity, independence, ability to travel to stores/warehouses within NCR as needed.
- Willingness to travel to off-site locations (if required) and work out of hours during physical stock counts.
Desirable
- Knowledge of stock audit methodology, inventory cycle counting, shrinkage analysis.
- Prior experience in fashion/textile industry (retail chain, garment manufacturing, accessories).
- Experience supervising a small audit team or coordinating with operations/warehouse teams.
- Familiarity with GST/inventory taxation implications (for scrap, returns, obsolescence).
- Ability to generate dashboards/visualisations for senior management (using Excel or BI tools).
Working Conditions
- Based in Gandhi Nagar, Delhi with frequent visits to stores/warehouses within NCR.
- Physical stock counts may require early mornings/late evenings or weekend visits depending on store/warehouse timings.
- Six-day work week or as per company policy; field travel may require allowance/reimbursement.

- % variance between physical stock and book stock by location.
- Number of audit observations closed within timeline (%).
- Reduction in stock shrinkage/obsolescence year-on-year.
- Timeliness and quality of audit reports delivered.
- Implementation rate of audit recommendations.
