It’s the default interface through which users summarize meetings, draft emails, generate insights from enterprise data, and coordinate with teams using natural language. As an Software Engineer II, you will design and build features that make conversational AI experiences seamless, reliable, and delightful for millions of users. You’ll contribute to engineering systems that enable rapid iteration, continuous deployment, and resilient live-site operations. You’ll implement automation in development workflows, release pipelines, and monitoring processes, while leveraging AI-driven solutions to optimize performance and elevate user experience. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on solving complex problems, balancing speed with reliability, and collaborating across disciplines to deliver impactful solutions at scale. - Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and refine user requirements for features in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. - Contribute to identifying dependencies and developing design documents for product areas with minimal oversight. - Implement and maintain code for features, services, and components, leveraging reusable code and breaking down larger work items into smaller tasks with accurate estimations. - Build frameworks and tooling to enable rapid experimentation and data-driven analysis in production. - Automate development workflows, release pipelines, and live-site operations to ensure efficiency and consistency. - Integrate AI-driven solutions to optimize developer workflows and enhance user experience. - Serve as Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) to monitor systems and features for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, and executes approved steps to restore service. - Invest in continuous learning to stay current with technologies and practices that improve availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products—driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python - OR equivalent experience. - Technical Skills: Solid understanding of CI/CD, release management, telemetry, and monitoring. - Familiarity with cloud-native architectures (Azure preferred). - Exposure to AI/ML concepts and experience applying them to workflows or features. - Solid problem-solving skills and passion for user-centric design. - Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams. Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: - Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python - OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python - OR equivalent experience. - Proficiency in modern web/app development (React, TypeScript). - Security, compliance, privacy‑by‑design mindset; experience with cost‑aware engineering. - Solid collaborator with PM and design; communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
