About the Role:
We are seeking a highly experienced engineer to lead the evolution of our public and internal API ecosystem.This role is central to our platform strategy:
- >You will design and scale API frameworks, define long-term versioning systems, and architect the backbone that powers thousands of partner integrations and developers
- >You will collaborate across engineering, product, and platform groups to ensure our API surface is reliable, scalable, discoverable, and future-proof, helping us deliver a seamless developer experience in a fast-growing, multi-tenant SaaS environment
This is a high-impact role suited for someone who:
- >Has deep experience working in large-scale SaaS platforms
- >Has built and governed API frameworks used by external developers and internal teams
- >Thinks in terms of platform consistency, lifecycle management, and architectural clarity
- >Operates with strong product ownership and cross-team influence
Responsibilities:
- Architect, maintain, and evolve the core API platform infrastructure used by all product teams
- Define and enforce API governance standards, including request/response schemas, naming conventions, error envelopes, authentication patterns, and security guidelines
- Own API lifecycle management: versioning, migration, deprecation, and compatibility guarantees.
- Lead the creation of tooling for SDK generation, documentation automation (OpenAPI), contract validation, and developer onboarding workflows
- Design and scale multi-tenant, high-traffic API systems handling millions of requests/day
- Build frameworks for API reliability: rate limiting, circuit breaking, retry semantics, idempotency, and data consistency patterns
- Architect secure and resilient integration pipelines: webhooks, events, streaming services, and async workflows
- Build an exceptional API developer experience through consistent design, intuitive onboarding, powerful debugging tools, and clear documentation
- Shape and maintain an internal API catalog/schema registry used across teams
- Improve API observability via structured logging, telemetry standards, SLO-driven dashboards, and API analytics.
- Work with product managers to shape platform strategy around extensibility and ecosystem growth
- Partner with engineering teams to guide API modeling, breaking-change mitigation, and backwards-compatible evolution
Requirements:
- 4+ years of engineering experience, with at least 2 years working on large-scale SaaS products.
- Proven experience owning or designing public-facing API frameworks, developer platforms, or integration ecosystems.
- Deep knowledge of API paradigms (REST, GraphQL, event-driven APIs), Versioning strategies (URL-, header-, media-type–based, resource evolution), Authentication & security standards (OAuth2.0, JWT, HMAC, scopes) & Schema evolution, OpenAPI management, and contract testing
- Strong coding foundation in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js or similar backend stacks.
- Experience with distributed systems: queues, event buses, CRON schedulers, idempotency, message ordering, and failure recovery
- Demonstrated ability to design systems that scale to millions of events or API calls per day
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with API gateway products (GCP, AWS API Gateway, NGINX, Envoy)
- Hands-on work with streaming APIs, WebSockets, SSE, or long-polling patterns
- Familiarity with domain modeling techniques (DDD, resource boundaries, BFFs)
- Experience building internal developer platforms (IDPs), CLI tooling, or API scaffolding frameworks
- Track record of driving cross-team architectural initiatives and establishing engineering best practices
- Contributions to open-source API frameworks or published API design guidelines
