Job Profile: Project Engineer – Substation Projects
Position OverviewThe Project Engineer (PE) supports the Project Manager in planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling all activities related to substation projects (AIS/GIS). The role ensures that projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and meet all technical, quality, and safety standards. The APM acts as a key interface between the project management office, engineering, procurement, and site execution teams.Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Coordination
- Assist in preparing and reviewing the project execution plan, schedules, and milestones.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, logistics, and site teams for smooth project progress.
- Participate in kick-off meetings and monitor project readiness at all stages.
- Support in identifying critical paths and developing recovery plans for delays.
- Site Execution Oversight
- Supervise site activities for civil, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
- Review progress against planned targets and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal departments to resolve execution bottlenecks.
- Support site engineers in implementing best construction practices and cost control measures.
- Cost, Budget & Resource Management
- Track project costs, budget utilization, and identify potential cost overruns.
- Assist in preparation of monthly cost reports, material reconciliation, and progress billing.
- Monitor utilization of manpower, equipment, and resources to achieve efficiency and cost optimization.
- Quality & Safety Assurance
- Ensure that all works conform to QA/QC standards and client specifications.
- Conduct regular site inspections and participate in internal and client quality audits.
- Promote and enforce Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) compliance at all project sites.
- Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a point of contact between site teams and the client’s project representatives.
- Attend progress review meetings and prepare status presentations.
- Support Project Manager in managing client communications, approvals, and change management.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain updated project documentation including schedules, progress reports, and minutes of meetings.
- Support in preparation of as-built documentation and project handover dossiers.
- Prepare weekly/monthly project performance reports highlighting risks, achievements, and upcoming targets.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of substation construction, erection, and commissioning (AIS/GIS).
- Proficiency in MS Project / Primavera, AutoCAD, and MS Office tools.
- Excellent coordination, communication, and leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of project cost control, QA/QC, and HSE standards.
- Problem-solving ability and proactive approach to issue resolution.
Educational Qualification
- B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical /Electronics & Communications Engineering.
Experience Requirement:
- 1–3 years of experience in project execution, including project Engineer support role.
Experience in EHV/GIS/AIS substation or transmission EPC projects is highly preferred
