Job Description

The Plant HR Generalist is responsible for managing day-to-day HR activities at the plant level, supporting employee life cycle processes, ensuring statutory compliance, and maintaining industrial harmony. The role requires close coordination with plant leadership and employees to foster a productive, safe, and compliant work environment.

Roles and Responsibilities of a Plant HR Generalist
1. Recruitment & Workforce Planning

  • Coordinate hiring for plant-based roles (staff and workers).
  • Collaborate with line managers for manpower planning and resource forecasting.
  • Conduct initial screenings, interviews, and background verifications.
  • Ensure smooth onboarding, documentation, and induction for new employees.

2. Employee Relations & Welfare

  • Serve as a liaison between management and plant employees.
  • Address grievances and resolve conflicts in a timely and fair manner.
  • Promote a harmonious work environment and build employee trust.
  • Monitor and improve worker welfare amenities like canteen, transport, restrooms, etc.

3. Shift HR Support

  • Provide HR coverage across all production shifts.
  • Be available for employee queries, discipline issues, and emergencies during all shifts.
  • Ensure attendance monitoring and discipline across shifts.

4. Attendance, Payroll & HR Operations

  • Maintain accurate attendance, leave, and overtime records.
  • Coordinate with payroll team for timely salary processing.
  • Update and maintain employee records in HRIS/ERP.
  • Handle employee confirmations, transfers, exits, and documentation.

5. Statutory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable labor laws and factory regulations.
  • Maintain statutory registers and records (ESI, PF, Bonus, Gratuity, etc.).
  • Liaise with government officials and assist during labor inspections and audits.
  • Oversee contractor labor compliance through vendor coordination.

6. Training & Development

  • Identify skill gaps and organize training sessions (technical & behavioral).
  • Maintain training calendar, attendance, and feedback documentation.
  • Track statutory training like safety, first aid, fire drills, etc.

7. Performance Management

  • Assist in goal-setting, performance reviews, and appraisal processes.
  • Coordinate feedback discussions and performance improvement plans.
  • Monitor and support probation evaluations and confirmations.

8. Safety, Health & Environment (in coordination with EHS)

  • Promote a safety-first culture on the shop floor.
  • Ensure HR support during accident investigations and reporting.
  • Assist in health camps, wellness programs, and safety awareness drives.

9. Employee Engagement & Communication

  • Plan and execute engagement activities: festivals, birthdays, town halls, etc.
  • Communicate HR policies, updates, and welfare schemes to employees effectively.
  • Conduct skip-level meetings, suggestion drives, and feedback forums.
