The MDMS Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing the complete lifecycle of master data across the organization, ensuring accuracy, consistency, governance, and timely availability of master data such as Vendor Masters, Customer Masters, Employee Codes, Material/Product Masters, Chart of Accounts, and other critical domains. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams, implementing standards, driving process improvements, and ensuring compliance with organizational data governance policies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Master Data Operations
Manage end-to-end creation, modification, and maintenance of master data including:
Vendor Master creation & updates
Customer Master creation & updates
Employee Code generation & employee master management
Product / Material Code generation (SKU/Item Master)
Service Master, BOM Master, Asset Master (as applicable)
Ensure timely processing of master data requests from business users.
Conduct periodic reviews and cleanup of existing master data to remove duplicates and errors.
2. Data Governance & Quality
Establish and enforce master data governance policies, naming conventions, coding standards, and approval workflows.
Monitor data quality and ensure compliance with business rules, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
Identify and correct data inconsistencies, duplicates, and anomalies proactively.
Implement data validation and control mechanisms across systems (ERP/MDM/CRM).
3. MDMS System Management
Lead the configuration, operation, and continuous improvement of the MDMS / MDM platform (SAP MDG, Oracle MDM, IBM MDM, or other systems).
Manage integration and data flows between MDMS and systems like ERP, CRM, HRMS, SCM, Finance systems.
Coordinate with IT teams for change requests, enhancements, testing, and UAT.
4. Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with Procurement, Sales, Finance, HR, Production, Supply Chain, and IT teams to understand data needs and ensure accurate master data availability.
Act as the primary point of contact for all master-data-related queries and escalations.
Conduct training sessions for users on MDMS processes, data standards, and tools.
5. Compliance & Audit
Maintain audit trails for master data creation, modification, and approvals.
Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and ensuring compliance.
Implement controls to prevent unauthorized changes or incorrect data creation.
6. Continuous Improvement
Identify gaps in current master data processes and propose automation or process optimization solutions.
Develop dashboards and reports to track master data performance (TAT, quality score, backlog, etc.).
Lead and support master data standardization and harmonization initiatives across locations/business units.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of MDM / MDG processes and master data domains (Vendor, Customer, Material, Employee, etc.).
Experience with ERP systems such as SAP (ECC/S4 HANA), Oracle, MS Dynamics, or MDM platforms.
Good understanding of master data workflows, coding structures, hierarchies, and approval processes.
Proficiency in Excel, data analysis, and data validation techniques.
Functional Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Experience in data cleansing, standardization, and governance framework implementation.
Ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders and drive process improvements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
4-8 years of experience in Master Data Management, Data Governance, or related roles.
Prior experience leading an MDMS/MDM team is preferred.
