JOB DESCRIPTIONA Lead Engineering role in a heavy electrical substation transmission line company involves leading and overseeing engineering teams, managing complex projects, and ensuring the technical integrity of substation and transmission line designs. This includes design reviews, specification development, equipment selection, and coordination with various stakeholders. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProject Leadership:Lead engineering teams, manage project scope, timelines, and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.Technical Expertise:Provide technical guidance and expertise in areas such as substation design, transmission line design, and power system analysis.Design and Engineering:Design, review, and detail engineering for HV power lines, HV cables, transmission, and distribution substations.Equipment Selection and Specification:Specify and select equipment for substations and transmission lines, ensuring they meet project requirements and industry standards.Coordination and Collaboration:Coordinate with various stakeholders, including clients, vendors, contractors, and internal teams, to ensure smooth project execution.Documentation:Prepare and review engineering documentation, including specifications, drawings, and reports.Calculations and Analysis:Perform calculations for induced voltages, inductive/capacitive coupling, earthing/bonding, and fault conditions.Software Proficiency:Utilize software like COMSOL, CDEGS, PSCAD, and EMTP for magnetic field calculations and system analysis.Tendering and Bidding:Review tender documents, prepare man-hour estimations for CTR (Conceptual Technical Report) preparation, and manage tender responses.Vendor Management:Coordinate with system vendors to ensure timely delivery and adherence to specifications.Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:Identify and resolve technical issues that may arise during project execution.Quality Assurance:Ensure that all engineering work meets quality standards and complies with relevant regulations and standards.Mentoring and Training:Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support their professional development.Communication:Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, both verbally and in writing, to ensure clear understanding of project requirements and progress.Continuous Improvement:Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in power system engineering, and continuously seek ways to improve engineering processes and practices.Risk Management:Identify and assess potential risks associated with projects and implement mitigation strategies.Compliance:Ensure that all engineering work complies with relevant safety regulations, environmental regulations, and industry standards. JOB REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.10+ years of experience in T&D primary circuit design and project management, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.Willingness to travel occasionallyAble to participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc. as necessaryEffective communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projectsProvide leadership for the other electrical engineers in our Power teamWorking with Project Engineer and Project Manager on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activitiesPerforming Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash analysis)One line and three-line diagramsConducting arc-flash hazard calculations to determine arc-flash boundaries and required PPEProtective relay and metering one line / three-line diagramsAC/DC schematics, Panel Layouts, Equipment layouts and sectional views, Connection DiagramsBill of Materials, Cable Schedules, DC power distribution designDeveloping construction and equipment specificationsSupporting projects during construction, start-up, and commissioningGrounding Analysis and Design, Reviewing engineering work performed by peersAttending client meetings, Client and site field visits ………………………XX………………….XX…………………….
