Role Overview

GM – Maintenance (Electrical and Mechanical)

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Maintenance Management

• Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies across plant infrastructure.
• Establish and manage maintenance budgets for manpower, spares, repairs, and services while ensuring optimal cost-to-output ratio.
• Build and manage critical spare parts inventory to minimize downtime and prevent production disruption.
• Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, statutory guidelines, and industry best practices.
• Lead team capability development and training on safety, equipment handling, and advanced diagnostic practices.

Electrical Maintenance

• Oversee maintenance of power distribution assets — transformers, generators, electrical panels, switchgear, and controls.
• Monitor and maintain PLCs, automation systems, instrumentation, safety interlocks, drives, and SCADA systems.
• Lead energy management initiatives to reduce power consumption and optimize electrical loads.
• Ensure strict adherence to electrical safety protocols, insulation systems, grounding standards, and hazard prevention.

Mechanical Maintenance

• Lead preventive and breakdown maintenance of key mechanical assets including furnaces, rolling mills, conveyors, crushers, pumps, compressors, and utility equipment.
• Oversee maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure smooth functioning and safety.
• Utilize vibration analysis, lubrication plans, thermal scanning, and condition monitoring for rotating equipment health.
• Drive root cause analysis (RCA) of mechanical failures and ensure permanent corrective actions.

Performance & Reliability Improvement

• Define and track maintenance KPIs (MTTR, MTBF, breakdown analytics, downtime hours, spare consumption).
• Conduct downtime analysis, identify recurring failures, and implement corrective strategies.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives in maintenance processes using lean maintenance techniques and reliability-based principles.

Daily Functional responsibilities

• Review daily maintenance reports, production logs, and predictive maintenance data.
• Conduct daily/weekly meetings with maintenance supervisors and technical operators.
• Coordinate shutdown maintenance plans with operations and production teams.
• Liaise closely with procurement, engineering, and quality functions to align maintenance requirements.

Experience & Expertise

• 10–15 years of maintenance experience in steel/heavy manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a managerial leadership capacity.
• Strong technical exposure to heavy industrial equipment, power systems, automation, hydraulics, and instrumentation.

Education & Certification

• Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Certifications in maintenance management, electrical safety, reliability engineering, or automation preferred.
