Finance Manager

Core purpose of the role: Protecting and improving an organisation’s overall financial health. The role combines financial reporting, planning, control, and compliance, strategic decision support for management, budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning to align finances with business goals. They analyse financial data and performance trends, providing insights and recommendations to management for better decision-making.

Role summary

Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, and then translate this information into clear recommendations for management. They help set and achieve the company’s financial goals by managing cash flow, investments, risks, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and standards.

Key responsibilities:

Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses, ensuring accuracy and timeliness for internal and external stakeholders.

Develop budgets and financial forecasts, monitor actual performance against plans, and recommend corrective actions where needed.

Analyse costs, pricing, margins, and profitability to identify cost-reduction and performance-improvement opportunities.

Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and investment activities to ensure liquidity and optimal use of funds.

Ensure compliance with tax, accounting, and other financial regulations, and coordinate with auditors during internal and statutory audits. Oversee the finance/accounts team, define processes and controls, and improve financial systems and reporting tools.

Skills and Qualifications Typical requirements include a degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business. Required skills include strong analytical ability, expertise in financial modelling and Excel, solid knowledge of accounting standards, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial insights clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
