About the Role:
Engineering Manager
Your focus will be on empowering Technical Leads and engineers to design and implement high-throughput, fault-tolerant systems while fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement. You will also play a key role in integrating AI-native practices into the development workflow, promoting the adoption of frameworks like Model Context Protocol (MCP), Multi Agent Systems (MAS), and other agentic approaches to boost engineering efficiency and decision-making.
What You’ll Do:
Strategic & Technical Leadership:
- Own the technical strategy and long-term vision for multiple backend teams, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Make high-level architectural decisions for large-scale systems handling millions of transactions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Ensure engineering best practices are deeply embedded across teams — from code quality and automated testing to observability, CI/CD, and production stability.
- Drive the adoption of modern AI-native development practices and agentic frameworks (MCP, MAS), setting strategic direction for how AI tools are integrated across teams.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and coach Technical Leads and senior engineers, helping them grow into strong technical leaders with ownership and strategic thinking.
- Foster a culture of ownership, innovation, high technical standards, and continuous learning within the engineering organization.
- Own engineering processes such as sprint planning, bandwidth allocation, task prioritization, and technical execution across multiple teams, ensuring a strong balance between speed and quality.
- Build strong, autonomous teams by encouraging ownership of features and services from design to production.
AI-Native Development Enablement:
- Champion the usage and continuous improvement of AI-assisted development workflows across engineering teams (Cursor AI, Copilot, Gemini etc.).
- Enable teams to build internal tools and automations using agentic frameworks (MCP, MAS), to improve developer productivity, system intelligence, and operational efficiency.
- Own and guide the evolution of internal AI prompt libraries and practices, and evaluate new AI technologies to integrate into the development lifecycle.
Systems & Infrastructure Ownership:
- Ensure systems are robust, monitored, and optimized through advanced observability, tracing, and performance profiling practices.
- Guide the design of data models and services leveraging PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, or similar, while emphasizing scalability and maintainability.
- Drive system health by enforcing SLOs, error budgets, and regular performance and security reviews.
Cross-functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
- Partner closely with Product, Design, QA, DevOps, and other Engineering teams to align engineering efforts with business priorities and product roadmaps.
- Influence product and business decisions through technical insights and thought leadership, acting as the key technical stakeholder in product discussions.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and align technical delivery timelines with business goals.
What We’re Looking For:
- B.E./B.Tech/Master’s degree from a premier institute.
- 8+ years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a product-based company.
- Prior experience in a fast-paced startup environment is highly valued.
- Proven experience managing multiple software teams (10+ engineers) including sprint planning, task breakdown, prioritization, and performance management and owning end-to-end delivery of large, complex projects.
- Strong hands-on background in backend development with at least 5+ years of experience in Python or Golang , and deep technical expertise across multiple backend frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to architect, build, scale, and maintain large distributed systems and microservices handling high-throughput workloads.
- Solid fundamentals in system design, distributed architecture, data structures, algorithms, and database systems (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB).
- Strong understanding of advanced concepts such as horizontal/vertical scaling, sharding, partitioning, rate-limiting, load balancing, caching, replication, consistency models, and schema design.
- Experience enabling engineering teams to adopt modern AI developer tools (Cursor AI, Copilot, Codex, Gemini, Windsurf) for real-world development workflows. Exposure to agentic frameworks and concepts such as Model Context Protocol (MCP), Multi-Agent Systems (MAS).
- Strong cloud infrastructure knowledge, preferably AWS, with hands-on experience in deployment, cost optimization, monitoring, scaling, and automation of cloud services.
- Demonstrated ability to hire, mentor, and grow engineering talent, and create high-performing, autonomous teams.
- Experience in defining and scaling engineering processes in agile environments with a focus on high quality and timely delivery.
- Excellent analytical thinking with the ability to translate business requirements into actionable technical designs.
- Comfortable making data-driven decisions, taking calculated product risks, and driving innovation while ensuring engineering stability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong stakeholder management capability. Ability to work independently, influence cross-functional teams, and foster strong collaboration between Engineering, Product, Design, QA, and Operations.
