As we develop an enterprise-wide data and digital strategy that moves us toward greater focus on the use of data and strengthen our digital, AI capabilities, we are seeking a Lead Engineer - Data and AI. In this role, you will work under guidance of Lead Engineer to apply engineering best practice and latest technology to lead design and execution of data and AI applications utilizing the capacity of AXA XL’s Data and AI Platforms and cloud technologies. Our tech stack continues to evolve together with Azure data and AI offering and relies on Azure Databricks and Azure AI pillars. Additionally, AXA XL consumes the wider technology offering from AXA Group, such as managed OpenShift, VM and DevOps platforms. We use Scrum methodology. What You’ll Be DOING
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrates ability to work effectively with product owners and cross-functional teams to ensure the timely, compliant, and high-quality delivery of data engineering applications and tools. Excels in stakeholder communication to gather requirements, provide updates, and align project goals.
- Analytical Thinking and Solution Design: Analyzes current and future user needs to inform the development of scalable, cost-effective, and resilient data and AI solutions. Applies problem-solving skills to design applications that meet business and technical requirements.
- Requirements Refinement and Project Planning: Collaborates with stakeholders to refine technical requirements and supports project planning efforts. Focuses on delivering outcomes aligned with organizational objectives and strategic goals.
- Software Development and Code Quality Assurance: Writes clean, maintainable, and efficient source code following industry best practices. Participates actively in code reviews to ensure code quality, consistency, and knowledge sharing.
- Technical Debt Management: Identifies and strategically addresses technical debt to improve system simplicity, performance, and maintainability. Implements best practices to reduce future technical difficulties and ensure long-term project sustainability.
- Innovation and Emerging Technologies: Conducts research and hands-on experimentation with new technologies, including AI tools and advanced data solutions. Executes proof-of-concept (POC) projects related to re-engineering, transformation, migration, and governance.
- Community Support and Engineering Excellence: Supports data science and engineering teams by creating automation tools, pipelines, and infrastructure to maximize their productivity. Provides guidance on engineering best practices and identifies skill gaps to foster continuous professional growth.

- Data Analytics: Designs and implements analytical data pipelines to extract insights and support decision-making.
- Data Warehousing: Builds and optimizes scalable, cost-efficient data storage solutions within an Azure environment.
- Troubleshooting & Debugging: Identifies issues, diagnoses problems, and resolves technical difficulties promptly to ensure system reliability.
- Programming Skills: Proficient in Python for data engineering, automation, and AI application development.
- Data Technologies & Tools: Hands-on experience with Databricks, Spark, and SQL/NoSQL databases for data processing and analysis.
- Workflow & Infrastructure Management: Familiar with Orchestration tools, Monitoring tools, Infrastructure as Code, and Streaming Technologies to automate workflows and maintain system performance.
- Professional Experience: Experienced as a Data Engineer / Software Engineer / AI Engineer working with open-source tech stacks, cloud platforms, and various database technologies.
- Business & Insurance Acumen: Understands how data solutions support core business and insurance-specific objectives.
- Digital Literacy: Leverages digital tools and platforms effectively to optimize data workflows and system integrations.
- Stakeholder Management: Engages with stakeholders to gather requirements, communicate progress, and align solutions with organizational goals.
