Job Description

Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer – HT & EV Motors & Generators (R&D)

Location: Vadodara, Gujarat
Department: REM R&D
Reports To: Head – REM R&D

Salary Range - 3 to 6 LPA

Must Have : Hand on Experience on ANSYS-Maxwell or SIEMENS-Simcenter MAGNETRole Overview

We are looking for a capable, detail-oriented, and innovation-driven Electrical Design Engineer to strengthen our R&D team focused on High Tension (HT) Motors and Generators. The role demands a strong foundation in electromagnetic design, proven hands-on experience in rotating electrical machines, and the ability to translate concepts into reliable, manufacturable products. Candidates must be comfortable working end-to-end—from concept design and simulation to prototype development, testing, and design optimization.

Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical & Electromagnetic Design

  • Design and develop HT motors and generators, covering winding layouts, magnetic circuit design, core design, insulation system architecture, rotor/stator configuration, and slot/lamination selection.
  • Perform detailed electromagnetic calculations, sizing, and performance modelling.
  • Conduct advanced FEA simulations (e.g., ANSYS-Maxwell, SIEMENS-Simcenter MAGNET or equivalent) for torque, losses, flux density, saturation, thermal behavior, noise/vibration impact, and fault conditions.
  • Define insulation class, dielectric clearances, creepage distances, and thermal management methods following HT standards.

Materials & Component Selection

  • Select materials for windings, varnishes, insulation systems, laminations, magnets (for PM machines), shaft materials, and cooling systems (IC classifications).
  • Evaluate vendor components for technical suitability and cost-performance trade-offs.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with mechanical design engineers to ensure rotor dynamics, cooling systems, bearings, enclosure design, and structural aspects are fully aligned with electrical design requirements.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing engineering to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and reliability in a heavy-engineering environment.
  • Support supply chain and quality teams during vendor evaluations, audits, and sample approvals.

Testing, Validation & Optimization

  • Develop test plans, type test protocols, and validation criteria for prototypes and production units.
  • Analyze test data, troubleshoot issues, and refine designs for improved performance, reliability, and durability.
  • Optimize existing motor/generator platforms for efficiency enhancement, cost reduction, and standardization.
  • Participate in root-cause investigations for field failures or performance deviations.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare and maintain design documentation: BOMs, detailed design calculations, simulation reports, test reports, DVP&R, FMEA inputs, and technical datasheets.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical machine standards: IEC 60034 series, IS Standards, IEEE, NEMA (as required).
  • Support certification processes and customer-specific qualification requirements.

Key RequirementsEducational Background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferably with specialization in Machines/Power/Electromagnetics).

Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience (flexible based on seniority level needed) in design of rotating electrical machines in the 100 kW to multi-MW class.
  • Proven experience with HT motors/generators; exposure to PM machines is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with electromagnetic and thermal simulation tools: ANSYS Maxwell, Motor-CAD, RMxprt, Simcenter MAGNET, or similar.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of:
  • Motor winding schemes (single/double-layer, lap/wave, concentric etc.).
  • Magnetic circuit design, core loss minimization, saturation limits.
  • Dielectric design, insulation systems, partial discharge considerations for HT machines.
  • Thermal management and cooling methods (air, water, IC classifications).
  • Protection concepts for HT motors (differential protection, thermal protection, vibration, overspeed).
  • Ability to do first-principles calculations without relying solely on software.
