Position Overview
Position: Director of School for Sustainable Energy
Location:
Experience:
- At least 5-10 years of experience in higher education, with significant leadership experience in academia, research, and program development in sustainable energy or a related field.
- Proven track record in leading interdisciplinary teams, managing academic programs, and driving research initiatives in sustainable energy.
- Extensive experience in the energy industry, with knowledge of sustainable energy technologies, policies, and systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:
1)Strategic Leadership and Vision
- Lead the vision, strategy, and growth of the School of Sustainable Energy, aligning it with the broader mission of the university and the goals of sustainability and innovation.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the School, ensuring academic programs, research initiatives, and industry partnerships align with the evolving needs of the sustainable energy sector.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and dynamic academic culture that encourages innovation, interdisciplinary research, and global engagement.
2. Academic Program Management and Development
- Oversee the design, development, and ongoing assessment of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs in sustainable energy, including energy systems, renewable energy, energy policy, and energy technology.
- Ensure the curriculum integrates current research, industry trends, and the latest technologies in sustainable energy, including solar, wind, geothermal, energy storage, and smart grids.
- Evaluate and improve academic programs, ensuring that students receive a high-quality, forward-thinking education that prepares them for leadership roles in the energy sector.
- Lead faculty efforts to develop new courses, certifications, and educational offerings that reflect emerging topics in sustainable energy.
3. Faculty Leadership and Development
- Recruit, retain, and develop high-quality faculty with expertise in sustainable energy, engineering, environmental science, energy policy, and related fields.
- Support faculty in their academic and professional development, including research initiatives, teaching, and engagement with the energy industry.
- Foster a culture of academic excellence and research innovation, encouraging faculty to publish, collaborate with industry, and engage in interdisciplinary projects.
- Ensure regular assessment of faculty performance and provide mentorship for faculty development and advancement.
4. Research Leadership
- Promote and oversee the School’s research agenda, ensuring that faculty and students are engaged in cutting-edge, high-impact research in sustainable energy technologies, policy, and systems.
- Build partnerships with industry, government agencies, and international organizations to support sustainable energy research initiatives.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary research collaboration across departments and with external partners, ensuring alignment with national and global sustainability goals.
- Secure external research funding through grants, contracts, and partnerships with private and public sector organizations.
5. Student Engagement and Success
- Ensure that students receive a comprehensive, innovative, and hands-on education, including opportunities for internships, cooperative education, capstone projects, and research experiences with industry partners.
- Support student career services, including job placement, internships, mentorship, and alumni networking, to prepare students for successful careers in the energy industry.
- Monitor student satisfaction, progress, and success, addressing academic concerns and creating initiatives to enhance student experience and retention.
- Promote student participation in relevant professional organizations, conferences, and industry events.
6. Industry Partnerships and External Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the sustainable energy sector, including government agencies, energy companies, NGOs, and research institutions.
- Develop strategic partnerships with industry leaders to provide students with real-world learning opportunities and to drive collaborative research initiatives.
- Represent the School at national and international conferences, forums, and public policy discussions related to sustainable energy.
- Actively pursue opportunities for industry-sponsored research, internships, and funding for the School’s initiatives.
7. Financial and Operational Management
- Oversee the school’s budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to support academic programs, research, faculty development, and operational needs.
- Work with the university administration to secure funding through grants, partnerships, and philanthropy to support the school’s programs and initiatives.
- Manage day-to-day operations of the School, including faculty and staff coordination, scheduling, and facilities management, to ensure smooth functioning.
8. Accreditation and Compliance
- Ensure that the School meets and exceeds relevant academic accreditation standards (e.g., ABET) and complies with university policies and regulations.
- Lead the preparation for accreditation reviews and ensure continuous improvement in the quality of academic programs, faculty, and research.
9. Community Engagement and Advocacy
- Engage with local, national, and international communities to promote the School’s contributions to sustainable energy solutions and environmental stewardship.
- Advocate for the importance of sustainable energy education and research in public policy and societal development.
- Develop outreach programs to engage with high school students, educators, and the broader community to inspire interest in sustainable energy careers and technologies.
