Role Overview

Director of New Business

  • Colleges and universities (including community colleges and executive education) 
  • Educational publishers and eLearning distribution partners 
  • Non-profits and professional associations 
  • Corporations and enterprise clients 


This is a hands-on, high-touch DOER and HUNTER. You MUST have global experience working in the U.S. and Western European markets, very culturally aware of these markets (the speed with which they function), and superb and demonstrable English (not inflected) language and communications abilities. 

NO “FARMERS” and people looking to merely sit back and be handed opportunities need apply.  We have extensive relationships in the market, and we will certainly help and coach you to work with “near-field prospects” and “low hanging fruit,” but we expect you to do the hard work of building relationships and earning the trust of your prospects and clients. 


Your role requires direct outreach, consultative selling, and opportunity conversion. You will identify new client and partnership opportunities, manage the full sales cycle (from initial contact, to meetings and presentations, and to contract), and build long-term relationships that deliver learning and business outcomes for our clients. This role can evolve to building a team under you, but your role for now is getting new business.   

You will be shown and taught every aspect of the business, and how to succeed. But, you must put in the hard work and you will not be “spoon fed” until you are ready to “get it done.”  We expect a take charge and leadership-oriented approach, daily. 


Key Responsibilities


Client Acquisition & Growth

  • Outbound outreach to engage decision-makers at academic institutions, publishers, associations, and enterprise L&D teams. 
  • Qualify and convert outbound leads into long-term clients, articulating value across the full product suite. 
  • Establish and maintain a pipeline of high-value opportunities aligned to quarterly and annual targets. 
  • Build channel partnerships with third-party content platforms and academic technology service providers. 
  • Manage and maintain all information inside our CRM platform (Zoho CRM) 

Solution Selling

  • Be completely capable and knowledgeable about

    our products and services

    , including presenting those to prospective customers and actual clients. 
  • Be completely capable and knowledgeable about

    our marketing materials, strategy and tactics

    and able to discuss and collaborate with our team 
  • Present our offerings—content, platforms, custom services, and AI-driven tools— individually and as more integrated solutions to client challenges, including pricing, contracting and negotiating.  
  • Scope and co-create client solutions including, for publishers, elearning platforms, distributor clients, and enterprises, as well as our academic, association and other organizational clients, sales and distribution of our: 
  • Bespoke / custom content development services  
  • Starweaver Originals course and content libraries  
  • Journeybuilder content hyper-personalization tools and engine 
  • Starweaver analytics data and predictive analytics platform 
  • Boostr process management and content development platform  

Partnership Development

  • Build strong executive relationships that result in recurring and expanding revenue. 
  • Collaborate closely with Starweaver’s product, content, and marketing teams to align go-to-market initiatives and client onboarding. 
  • Support RFP responses and proposals with a focus on academic and nonprofit sectors. 


Qualifications

Experience

  • 8+ years in sales or business development roles within edtech, higher education, learning technology, or professional development sectors. 
  • Proven track record of B2B sales success, especially with colleges/universities, publishers, and L&D organizations. 
  • Experience working with LMS platforms, learning content licensing, or custom content solutions is strongly preferred. 

Skills & Traits

  • Hunter mindset with the ability to independently drive new business. 
  • Strategic thinker with excellent consultative selling and relationship management skills. 
  • Comfortable navigating long sales cycles and multiple stakeholders (academic deans, CIOs, CHROs, etc.). 
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities. 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in education, business, or related fields is a plus.
