Job Overview

We are looking for a strategic and visionary State Head - Credit to lead and oversee the entire credit function for the state. This role is pivotal in building a best-in-class credit department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for all Regional Credit Managers (RCMs), ensuring the highest standards of credit underwriting, portfolio quality, and process efficiency. You will be the custodian of our credit risk framework, tasked with revamping policies and models to fuel exponential growth while safeguarding the company's asset quality, particularly in the challenging and opportunistic geographies of Tier 3, 4, and 5 rural areas..

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Team Management:
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to the entire team of Regional Credit Managers.
  • Set clear performance goals, monitor outcomes, and drive a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of the credit team.
  • Credit Policy & Framework Revamp:
  • Lead the comprehensive review and redesign of the company's credit policies, underwriting models, and Business Rule Engine (BRE).
  • Develop and implement robust, scalable credit frameworks that support aggressive growth targets without compromising risk standards.
  • Introduce innovative credit assessment methodologies tailored to the unique challenges of low-documentation, semi-urban, and rural markets.
  • Portfolio Risk Management:
  • Act as the ultimate guardian of the state's credit portfolio quality.
  • Develop and monitor key portfolio health indicators (e.g., Delinquency, Default rates, Concentration risk) and implement proactive corrective measures.
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews and stress testing to identify emerging risks.
  • Expert Underwriting & Income Assessment:
  • Provide expert guidance on complex, high-value credit decisions.
  • Champion and institutionalize advanced techniques for income assessment in situations with limited formal documentation. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Deriving income from bank statement analysis.
  • Assessing cash flow through QR code/UPI receivables.
  • Utilizing alternative data points and direct field intelligence for a holistic view of repayment capacity.
  • Process Efficiency & TAT Management:
  • Own the credit journey's efficiency, from application to decision.
  • Ensure strict adherence to defined Turn-Around Times (TATs) across all hubs.
  • Leverage and optimize credit underwriting software to create a seamless, efficient, and transparent process, minimizing manual bottlenecks.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
  • Work closely with Sales, Operations, and Business Development teams to ensure a smooth customer journey while maintaining strict credit discipline.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for critical credit-related issues.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Experience: 12 to 15 years of progressive credit experience within the NBFC sector, with a significant portion in a leadership role overseeing a credit team.
  • Sector Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience in managing credit flows for MSME Loans Against Property, Gold Loans, Business Loans, and Education Loans.
  • Geographical Acumen: Proven and relevant experience in underwriting for Tier 3, 4, and 5 geographies is non-negotiable. Must be an expert in assessing "non-documented" income.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Mastery of cash-flow-based underwriting and alternative income assessment techniques.
  • Strong experience with credit underwriting software and process digitization.
  • Expert-level knowledge of financial statement analysis and risk assessment.
  • Leadership Qualities: A strategic thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills, strong business acumen, and the ability to inspire and lead a large, distributed team.
