About the Role

Senior Manager – Sensor Design & Development (Automotive)


Responsibilities

  • Drive concept-to-production design strategy, balancing innovation, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
  • Should possess strong know-how of temperature, pressure, proximity, LIDAR, radar, accelerometers, oxygen sensors, and others(if any)
  • Drive innovation in sensor design, material selection, and packaging to enhance product performance, reliability, and differentiation in the market.
  • Provide technical direction and mentoring to design engineers for 3D/2D modeling, drawing creation, and release.
  • Collaborate with the Lead – Sensor to develop design roadmaps, ensure readiness for new technologies, and plan for future sensor platform architectures.
  • Ensure design outputs meet internal and external quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Lead design reviews, DFMEA, and DVP&R planning, ensuring risk identification and mitigation.
  • Act as a key liaison between design, development, validation, and manufacturing teams to ensure cross-functional alignment.
  • Monitor and drive KPI metrics such as design lead time, right-first-time drawings, and issue resolution turnaround.
  • Support cost reduction, localization, and VA/VE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) initiatives through design optimization.
  • Represent the design function in customer technical discussions, Engineering presentations, audits, and internal leadership reviews.
  • Act as the technical design representative for customer-facing discussions, ensuring clear communication of sensor product designs, features, and capabilities.
  • Attend and contribute to customer meetings, design reviews, and audits, providing detailed updates on design progress, changes, and validation outcomes.
  • Capture and translate customer requirements into technical specifications, ensuring alignment during the concept and development phases.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of design engineers, ensuring high performance, technical growth, and accountability.
  • Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of design deliverables in line with project milestones.
  • Drive a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous learning within the design team.
  • Conduct regular technical and performance reviews, providing feedback, coaching, and development plans for team members.




Qualifications & Other Requirements

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree

    in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 10–15 years of experience

    in automotive sensor design & development, with at least

    3–5 years in a leadership/managerial role

    .
  • Strong knowledge of

    3D/2D CAD tools like Creo

    ,

    GD&T

    , DFMEA/PFMEA, and product validation processes.
  • Exposure to

    automotive standards (IATF 16949, ISO 26262, APQP, PPAP)

    .
  • Experience in

    cross-functional collaboration and mentoring teams

    .
