About the Project
The Research Associate (RA) will anchor the proposed study to extend CETE’s ongoing Longitudinal Study of Teacher Education (LiSTEn) across the various project sites of EdIndia Foundation. The study will also focus on understanding the early career trajectories of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs).
The RA will coordinate and liaise with CETE Faculty and EdIndia teams to design and implement the research. This includes contributing to the development of research proposals, literature reviews, methodology, and research tools under the guidance of senior researchers and faculty.
The RA will work in alignment with the overall aim of the research — to deepen understanding of the teacher education sector, contribute to the theoretical basis of professional teacher formation, and inform evidence-based policymaking in India.
Job Description and Responsibilities
Location: Mumbai (EdIndia Office & School of Education, TISS).
Travel : Some travel to project sites may be required.
Full-time | 6-month probation | 1 Position|
Key Responsibilities:
· Engage with all aspects of the study, including literature review, methodology, and research tools
· Adapt and integrate frameworks and tools to be used in EdIndia’s partner institutions.
· Manage data collection, cleaning, preparation, and resource management.
· Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including advanced statistical analysis (e.g., regression, clustering, time-series, multivariate).
· Develop dashboards, visualizations, and high-quality reports to communicate insights clearly to diverse stakeholders.
· Collaborate with internal teams, faculty, and government partners to translate research insights into actionable policy and program recommendations.
· Contribute to ongoing research activities at CETE and EdIndia, and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.
Who we are looking for:
We are seeking a postgraduate or early-career professional with strong research, analytical, and technical skills. The ideal candidate will have:
· Up to 2 years of relevant experience.
· A strong postgraduate degree in Education, Development Studies, Economics, Sociology, Public Policy, or allied social sciences.
· Strong understanding of statistical techniques with SPSS, and preferably proficiency in R, Stata, or Python.
· Ability to review and synthesize research literature and contribute to research design.
· Strong data visualization skills using Tableau, Power BI, Looker Studio, or libraries such as ggplot/matplotlib/seaborn.
· Diligence, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines while working collaboratively.
· Preference for candidates with research or work experience in teacher education.
· Understanding of education sector in India, and preservice teacher education is desirable.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
· Knowledge of Hindi/regional languages desirable.
