Purchase Manager

Role Overview

The Purchase Manager will oversee the procurement of raw materials, packaging materials, and services required for FMCG food production. The role focuses on ensuring quality, cost efficiency, and uninterrupted supply to support production and business goals. The position requires strong vendor management, negotiation skills, and a deep understanding of the food manufacturing supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute procurement strategies that align with production and business plans.
• Source and evaluate suppliers for raw materials, packaging materials, and third-party manufacturing or logistics support.
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules to optimize cost and efficiency.
• Ensure materials meet food safety, quality, and regulatory standards (FSSAI, HACCP, etc.).
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production and warehouse teams for timely replenishment.
• Review purchase orders, track deliveries, and resolve discrepancies in quality or quantity.
• Build long-term vendor relationships to ensure reliable supply and service quality.
• Identify cost reduction opportunities through alternate sourcing and process improvements.
• Collaborate with R&D and Quality teams for new product development materials.
• Maintain updated procurement records, contracts, and supplier performance data.
• Support audits and ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and statutory requirements.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• In-depth knowledge of FMCG procurement, food ingredients, and packaging materials.
• Understanding of quality and safety standards relevant to food manufacturing.
• Analytical and data-driven decision-making ability.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / Tally) and MS Excel.
• Strong vendor management and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight timelines.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Engineering, or related field.
• MBA or PG Diploma in Materials / Supply Chain preferred.
• 7–10 years of experience in procurement within FMCG or food manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience in sourcing food ingredients, packaging materials, and vendor management is essential.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹70,000.00 per month
