Job Description: Production Manager / Head of Operations

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic Production Manager / Head of Operations to lead and oversee the entire manufacturing process. The ideal candidate will manage laser cutting, bending, welding, grinding, assembly, quality, inventory, dispatch, and manpower while ensuring efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery.

This is a leadership role requiring strong technical and managerial skills.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Planning & Execution

• Create daily and weekly production plans for laser cutting, bending, welding, assembly, and finishing.
• Prioritize orders based on delivery timelines and client urgency.
• Ensure optimum use of machines (Laser, Bending, Welding, etc.) and manpower.

2. Operations Management

• Oversee complete shop-floor operations from raw material to dispatch.
• Coordinate between fabrication, assembly, quality, and logistics teams.
• Ensure smooth workflow & minimum downtime.

3. Quality Control

• Implement strict quality checks at every stage:
• Laser cutting accuracy
• Bending precision
• Welding quality
• Final finishing & assembly
• Ensure compliance with company quality standards for elevator components and panels.

4. Manpower & Team Management

• Supervise operators, fabricators, welders, helpers, and supervisors.
• Allocate work duties daily and ensure productivity.
• Conduct training & skill improvement programs for workers.

5. Inventory & Material Handling

• Monitor raw material stock levels (CR sheet, SS sheet, consumables).
• Coordinate with purchase team for timely material procurement.
• Control wastage and maintain records for scrap and rejections.

6. Machine Maintenance Coordination

• Ensure preventive maintenance of laser cutting machine, bending machine, welding machines, grinders, etc.
• Coordinate with service engineers for breakdown maintenance.

7. Safety & Compliance

• Implement safety protocols on the shop floor.
• Ensure PPE compliance and safe working practices.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas (5S implementation).

8. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain production reports, machine utilization logs, and shift performance sheets.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reports.
• Report delays, risks, and improvements to management.

9. Continuous Improvement

• Implement process improvements to increase speed, reduce cost, and improve quality.
• Apply lean manufacturing / 5S / kaizen practices where possible.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in metal fabrication, sheet metal components, or similar industry.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Laser cutting and bending operations
• Welding processes
• Material grades (MS, SS)
• Fabrication drawings
• Production scheduling & manpower planning
• Leadership and team-handling skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in elevator components manufacturing (added advantage)
• Knowledge of CAD drawings (ability to understand DXF/AutoCAD files)
• Strong problem-solving abilities
• Good communication & reporting skills
• Ability to work in fast-paced production environment
