Role Overview

Payroll Manager



Key Responsibilities

Client Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned payroll clients.
  • Understand client requirements and design appropriate payroll solutions.
  • Handle client onboarding, transitions, and queries in a professional manner.
  • Build strong client relationships through proactive communication and consistent service quality.

Payroll Review and Delivery

  • Review payroll computations prepared by the team for accuracy and compliance.
  • Approve final payroll runs, salary registers, payslips, and bank files.
  • Oversee statutory and labour compliance filings (PF, ESI, PT, LWF, Income Tax TDS, etc.) and ensure timely submission.
  • Ensure that all payroll processes adhere to applicable laws and internal quality standards.

Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of payroll executives and senior payroll associates.
  • Allocate work, monitor progress, and review deliverables.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, training sessions, and performance reviews.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the team.

Compliance and Advisory

  • Stay abreast of changes in payroll laws and regulations in India.
  • Advise clients on statutory updates and ensure proactive compliance.
  • Review and sign off on monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory returns.
  • Support accounting team by providing necessary documentation and clarifications.




Process Improvement and Reporting

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure proper documentation of payroll processes and controls.
  • Assist in technology implementations or transitions (e.g., new payroll software or automation initiatives).



Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. MBA (HR/Finance) or professional certifications (e.g., Payroll Specialist certification) preferred.
  • 6–10 years of experience in India payroll processing and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of Indian labour laws, PF, ESI, PT, Income Tax TDS on salaries, and other statutory requirements.
  • Prior experience in client-facing roles is essential.

  • Strong people management and leadership skills.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with payroll software such as Greythr, Zoho and strong MS Excel.skills
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal).
