Job Description

Main Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Creation and maintenance of network diagrams and documentation across the group.
  • Regular maintenance of network asset inventory, firmware & OS versions.
  • Ensuring availability, Integrity of core network services to meet agreed SLA’s and KPI are achieved.
  • Undertaking all activities with a primary focus on risk mitigation and data security.
  • Carrying out day to day tasks relating to network workload on core systems and provisioning/de-provisioning including maintenance and monitoring.
  • Network LAN & WAN capacity and optimisation across the group.
  • Monitoring and management for Company’s core network and perimeter alerts related to capacity – response times - utilisation resources.
  • Producing regular reports, using monitoring tools, on overall Network/Firewall health and providing remediation actions and recommended improvements.
  • Coordinating with 3rd party providers to ensure regular security and platform upgrade cycles are maintained.
  • Troubleshooting complex network issues using protocol analysers and diagnostic tools.
  • Building a strong working relationship with colleagues within the Infrastructure Services Team and the wider IT function located at multiple sites across the group.
  • Planning, managing, documenting, and delivering infrastructure changes to support business and IT projects.
  • Following ITIL best practices for Change Management.
  • Enabling the effective transition of services to BAU support.
  • Supporting additional technologies as and when required.
  • Staying abreast of latest technology trends and identifying new technologies that could provide additional efficiencies and benefits.
  • Providing coaching and guidance to Service Desk Team members as and when required.
  • May be required to support a rotational on-call posture after normal working hours in response to technical support.

  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively and clearly to a non-technical audience as well as a technically minded group.

  • Reporting to the Senior Network Engineer (Team Lead).
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good team relationship for example mentoring junior members of the team.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across the extended IT team and key business areas.

  • Accredited - Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and proven experience working with:
  • Cisco Nexus 9000 core datacentre switches.
  • Checkpoint Firewall Administration.
  • Meraki MS250/MS350 switches/stacks.
  • Meraki Cloud Portal Switch/WAP mgmt. Firmware updates etc.
  • Wi-fi – Meraki (e.g. MR46 Series).
  • Routing, DIA circuits/MPLS circuits, BGP/OSPF.
  • NAT/PAT
  • VPNs (site to site, client VPN etc).
  • Azure (Networking Skills)
  • VMware vCenter (Networking Skills)
  • Accredited - Check Point Certified Security Admin (CCSA) and proven experience working with:
  • Checkpoint (R81.10 min)
  • Smart-1 Management Console
  • GAIA & Checkpoint CLI
  • Proven experience working with network protocol analyser and diagnostics tools.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of best practice IT Frameworks such as ITIL.
  • Working knowledge of current IT trends in Cloud and on-premises technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex tasks using available resources, as needed.
  • Excellent technical documentation (Inc. L3 Diagrams) skills.
  • Excellent analytic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of fibre/stack connections such as SFP, SFP+, QSFP, trunks, aggregated ports etc.


  • Checkpoint Certified Security Expert (CCSE) or equivalent.
  • Experience of Checkpoint Maestro Solutions.
  • Experience of Checkpoint Harmony Orchestrator.
  • Experience of Checkpoint 6600 appliances and clustered configurations.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent.
  • Experience working with vendor technology partners such as:
  • Citrix NetScaler.
  • O365
  • Azure
  • Experience working with a Microsoft technology stack including AD-DS, DNS, DHCP and Server operating systems 2019.
  • Automation / Scripting for Network Devices e.g. Meraki API.
  • Enhanced Monitoring for Network Devices (PRTG/WUG).
  • Skilled in Vendor/Supplier/Consultancy management.
  • Versed in supplier service reviews.
  • Architectural and design level certification in relevant technologies.
