Company Brief Planys is a deep tech start-up revolutionizing infrastructure integrity and risk assessment. Planys specializes in smart underwater inspection solutions and sophisticated digital analytics and reporting of NDT data. Planys envisions to steer a new course in the maintenance and inspection industry with its disruptive innovations in the field of marine robotics, novel underwater NDT methods and AI enabled post-inspection analytical digital reporting dashboard. Planys helps asset owners/operators in taking data-driven decisions for effective maintenance and repair of their critical assets. Key Responsibilities: Lead the Mechanical Design & Engineering team through the full-cycle mechanical development of underwater systems from concept, prototyping, testing, to deployment. Drive mechanical architecture decisions for pressure housings, enclosures, sealing, thermal pathways, structural frames, and hydrodynamic designs. Manage multiple parallel engineering projects while ensuring adherence to timelines, cost targets, and quality benchmarks. Supervise field testing and post-deployment support of systems in underwater and offshore environments. Establish engineering documentation practices including design reports, test protocols, FMEAs, and BOMs. Design Expertise: Strong proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent). Deep knowledge of GD&T and tolerance analysis. Experience with underwater system design: pressure ratings, corrosion mitigation, material compatibility, sealing techniques (O-rings, epoxy, etc.). Understanding of DFMA, thermal management, and vibration/shock tolerance in mobile or field-deployed systems Manufacturing Knowledge: Exposure to CNC machining, injection molding, sheet metal design, 3D printing, and composite fabrication. Experience creating manufacturing drawings and communicating with vendors/fabricators. Perform design reviews, DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) analysis, and tolerance stack-up analysis. Standards & Compliance (preferred): Familiarity with IECEx, ISO 9001, IP rating, MIL-STD standards, and marine/navy defense standards is an added advantage. Soft Skills & Leadership Strong project ownership with the ability to handle multiple stakeholders. Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Comfortable working in cross-functional teams with electronics, software, and field teams. Ability to mentor junior engineers and provide structured technical guidance. Willingness to work in lab and on-site environments (including offshore/off-site trials). Show more Show less
