We are looking for a self-driven Junior Anaplan Model Builder to advance our Anaplan Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) environment and adjacent areas of the tech stack on the Finance Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Center of Excellence Transformation team.

The Team: Our FP&A team drives decisions at all levels, from Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team strategy to manager-level tactical operations, by analyzing and reporting financial results and developing forecasts.

Within FP&A, the Center of Excellence Transformation team is a highly agile and visible team of trusted partners; we are continuously creating, improving, and partnering to advance athena’s forecasting and reporting capabilities across people, process, and technology solutions. You’ll be part of a 6-person Model Builder team based in the US and India.


Job Responsibilities

  • Over time, become the go-to person for Revenue Recognition in Anaplan in close partnership with business leads: business partner to Accounting, business systems analyst, model builder, UX designer, and enhancement project manager
  • Act as a Business Systems Analyst to partner with Accounting and FP&A users to identify process gaps and areas for improvement, including in UX design
  • Translate business problems and spreadsheets into best-in-class Anaplan multi-dimensional solutions following athena’s development process: gather requirements, design, develop, test, maintain & improve models all while following key standardization guidelines
  • Modify existing models to optimize, improve, and/or create new functionality and user experience, considering both UX pages and AnaplanXL as the primary user interface
  • Define data integration and process scheduling requirements in partnership with IT leveraging ETL tools (Informatica, Anaplan Data Orchestrator); provide guidance to data owners on Anaplan staging best practices, and help reconcile data when applicable
  • Partner with Internal Audit to maintain a SOX and ITGC-compliant environment, including quarterly reviews of user access and model revisions
  • Resolve questions, including researching, explaining, documenting, and escalating issues to Anaplan support
  • Communicate status, from key milestones to tactical bug fixes, including weekly updates, team meetings, and ad hoc conversations
  • Become an Anaplan platform guru through friendly competition in team hackathons, understanding monthly platform updates, and achieving additional Anaplan Model Builder certifications
  • Set and work toward long-term goals, such as becoming a Solution Architect
  • Assist with hierarchy governance process, including monthly review files and bulk data updates

Behaviors and Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate examples of ambition and resolving work-related challenges through independent work
  • Familiarity with financial analysis, modeling, & reporting and client level planning concepts
  • 1+ years of Anaplan model building experience, including at least Level 1 Model Building certification and 1 full lifecycle implementation in Anaplan
  • Demonstrated Model Builder technical ability in modules with multiple dimensions, import and export actions, and ALM. Anaplan Polaris Model Building, Anaplan Data Orchestration, Workflows, AnaplanXL experience a bonus
  • Willingness to step outside of your comfort zone to resolve issues and implement enhancements that move the team forward
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills with a customer-first approach
  • Proactive obsession with getting the details right and executing projects on time
  • Strong communication skills: concisely align, teach, and document
  • Operations-minded: a well-organized, action-oriented planner who understands process flows
  • Track record of maintaining strict confidentiality
