Job Description

We’re looking for a passionate, creative, and detail-oriented Industrial Designer to join the Nexstem team. You will work closely with our engineering, product, and UX teams to design products that are not only cutting-edge in technology but also user-centric and aesthetically pleasing. Your primary focus will be on designing ergonomic, functional, and visually appealing bio-acquisition wearable devices , including EEG headsets and BCI systems that enhance the user experience for clinicians, researchers, and end-users. Key Responsibilities Human-Centered Design: Lead the conceptualization of bio-acquisition wearable devices, including EEG headsets and BCI systems, focusing on ergonomics, usability, and user comfort. Experience-Led Design: Craft intuitive physical interactions through refined form, texture, and touchpoints that enhance the overall user experience, especially in long-term or repeated-use scenarios. User Research & Ergonomic Validation: Conduct interviews, ergonomic assessments, and usability testing tailored for wearables that interface with the human body, ensuring accurate sensor placement and comfort. Design Language & CMF Strategy: Define design languages and CMF strategies aligned with technical performance (e.g., sensor conductivity, material flexibility) and brand vision. 3D Modeling & Prototyping: Create high-fidelity CAD models and physical prototypes for rapid iteration, considering fit, skin contact, and sensor integration for bio-signal capture. Mechanical Design & DFM: Engineer components and assemblies for manufacturability, with attention to tolerances critical for sensor accuracy and user comfort. Materials & Process Engineering: Select biocompatible and high-performance materials suitable for biosignal acquisition, including skin-safe plastics and flexible mechanical structures. Creative Engineering Solutions: Address unique design constraints posed by human-machine interfaces with innovative, scalable, and user-safe solutions. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with neuroscientists, industrial designers, firmware engineers, and manufacturing partners to ensure product feasibility and performance. Vendor & Production Liaison: Coordinate with vendors to manage prototyping and scaling of components involving bio-acquisition hardware (e.g., electrodes, sensors, housings). Technical Documentation: Produce comprehensive documentation and specifications supporting compliance, reliability, and repeatable performance of sensor-integrated wearables. Quality & Compliance: Define and execute testing protocols for biosignal fidelity, mechanical durability, and compliance with relevant medical or wellness device standards. Skills & Qualifications Core Requirements Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics, or a closely related field — or equivalent practical experience. Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience in developing physical products, with a strong preference for work in bio-acquisition wearables, medical devices, or BCIs. Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product development, including contributions to mechanically sound, sensor-integrated, and production-ready wearable solutions. Technical Tools: Expertise in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Rhino; rendering with KeyShot or Blender; and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and 3D prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing, CNC). Manufacturing Expertise: Proven experience with DFM/DFA, plastic injection molding, sheet metal, tolerancing, and assembly techniques suitable for precision fit around the human body. Wearable Ergonomics: In-depth understanding of ergonomic principles, sensor placement, and human-machine interaction specific to head-mounted or biosignal-based devices. Team Collaboration: Strong history of working closely with engineering, neuroscience, and industrial design teams to translate design intent into manufacturable, high-performance products. Problem Solving: Methodical, iterative approach to design challenges—balancing user needs, technical feasibility, and regulatory considerations. Manufacturing Interface: Experience liaising with vendors and suppliers for wearable and sensor-integrated component production, managing risk and ensuring quality. Communication: Excellent skills in presenting design rationale, engineering trade-offs, and user research findings to multidisciplinary stakeholders. Bonus Qualifications Biosignal Product Experience: Prior work in bio-acquisition products such as EEG, EMG, ECG, or other physiological monitoring devices is a significant advantage. Leadership Potential: Demonstrated initiative, decision-making ownership, and a vision to grow into lead design or product leadership roles. Innovative Mindset: Passion for creating cutting-edge, ergonomic, and reliable wearable technology that blends seamlessly into users’ lives while delivering measurable impact.
