Compact system design for untruly demands of the Imaging and Processing systems is essential to make the devices accessible. If you are a passionate and enthusiastic engineer with strong will to explore and pursue in the area of Medical technologies, Embedded Systems Engineer (ESE) can be a great start. An ESE would be part of developing first of its kind screening and diagnostic devices for the eye. The primary goal of an ESE is to design the blueprint of embedded system according to the requirements. Typically, these systems consist of a processor, camera, LEDs and other electronic sensors. Responsibilities: Rapid prototyping with the off-shelf components to validate an idea / concept. Optimization of electronic circuits and systems to low-power and support compact packaging. Design the embedded systems layout and architecture following IEC standards for manufacturing and deployment. Develop software routines / build and install necessary drivers to interface the electronic sensors to the custom device application. Design the CAD layout for PCB printing following the manufacturing standards. Build Mobile interfaceable systems via micro USB / Bluetooth / Wi-Fi Keep UpToDate with the new electronics chips, single board computers, electronic sensors etc Collaborate with clinicians / subject matter experts to seek domain knowledge Co-ordinate with the manufacturers and suppliers. Conceptualize a development task, its dependencies and map out work flows for an assigned project Basic good work practices of documentation , testing procedures and development logs. Required Skills Strong academic background in Analog and Digital Electronic circuits (Transistor circuits, Op-Amps, Voltage and Current regulator circuits, ADCs and DACs). First Hand experience with 8081 microcontroller, Arduino boards (UNO, Micro, Mega2560 etc) and single board computers like Raspberry Pi. Knowledge in computer architecture, in concepts like Von Neumann architecture, OSI layers and Interfaces (I2C, SPI, USB etc). Experience in PCB designing skills in EAGLE CAD and other web circuit simulators. Ability and willingness to learn on the job and expanding his/her skillset

The Innovation Center is responsible for exploring and assessing new technologies for providing eye health care either at a 10x reduced price or 10x improvement in the quality. The primary focus of this role will involve exploration of emerging technologies and their applicability to eye health care process with innovative concepts for new product designs, and enhancements to existing designs that improve safety, reliability and also business value. Responsibilities Drive R&D projects to be completed effectively and efficiently on a timely basis. Design and develop test jigs by using 3d printed, machined or sheet metal parts. Conducting experiments methodically, analyzing data and interpreting results Prepare product reports and documentation. Required Skills Minimum bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Strong background in device design, material selection, and manufacturing methods. Should be an experiential learner Expertise in CAD design tools (Solidworks preferred) Experience in design development of sheet metal, injection molding parts, die casting with consideration of cost, manufacturability. Ability to design and test prototypes fast. Ability to work we'll in a cross functional team environment and support multiple projects as needed. As an industrial designer you will involve the engineering and technical teams into the creative processes to ensure the feasibility of the product. You will work with many different specialists such as clinicians, scientists, engineers, marketers and accountants, to create new products. When beginning a project, you may start with the team meeting/the stakeholders to advise the product planning team on how existing products can be improved and new ones introduced. You will have to carry out market research/ usability research to assess the product performance characteristics required by consumers and establish visual characteristics that will give the sales team an edge in the marketplace. We, at the LVPEI Center for Innovation, have developed a variety of screening and diagnostic devices Precision imaging systems are crucial components of these devices and the visual information captured here helps the clinician / examiner to decide the status of the eye health To auto-detect and quantify various pathologies of eye we adopt Computer Vision and Machine Learning techniques These developments will help the innovation center to build automated disease detection systems and there by enhance quality of eye care This role gives the candidate an opportunity to work on unique data sets and explore various image processing algorithms and deep learning (algorithms & frameworks) This role majorly involves in organizing data for further analysis, making the models scalable and light-weight to implement them offline on mobile phone platforms Responsibilities Work on translating the computer vision research to its applications in screening and diagnosing eye pathologies. Create novel methods to annotate and organize the patient data for further analysis. Keep UpToDate with the rapid developments in Computer vision and deep learning Incorporate improvements to the model / algorithms design and architecture, leading to increased accuracy in pathology identification. Collaborate with interns at the center to Fastrack the development process. Conceptualize a development task, its dependencies and map out work flows for an assigned project Best practices of software documentation and maintian development logs. Required Skills First-hand experience in working with open source neural networks like ResNet /MobileNet /Inception. An AD has the opportunity to work on and be part of developing first of its kind screening devices for the eye. The primary goal of an AD should be the development of cross-platform apps that would serve as user interfaces for the devices developed at the innovation center. As all data collected from the device are considered medical records, your role as a developer will also require knowledge of database management and network architecture to implement safe data storage and inter-communication between all the clients. During your time here, you will also have to interact with clinicians, designers and the Lead Engineer of the project, and work as a team with the end goal of developing a suite of applications that will be deployed as a package with all the center s screening devices. Responsibilities Develop and maintain cross-platform software packages for the center s devices Collaborate with the Lead Engineer and designers to develop and deliver on all projects Conceptualize a development task, it s dependencies and map out work flows for an assigned project Implement good work practices of software documentation and development logs Required Skills Minimum of one independent Android app development project, hobby projects are also alright Familiarity with Azure app services, Firebase and SQL databases. * Prior experience with Android Studio. Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git. Knowledge in Android frameworks and firsthand experience in cross platform development is an added advantage.
