Job Description

Manager – Indirect Tax


Reports To: Head - Taxation


Job Purpose:

To lead and manage all aspects of indirect taxation including GST, customs, and other applicable levies, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, optimizing tax positions, and supporting business operations with strategic tax planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9, etc.)
  • Manage reconciliation of GST data with financial records and ensure accuracy.
  • Oversee e-invoicing and e-way bill compliance.


  • Advisory & Planning:

  • Provide strategic advice on indirect tax implications for business transactions.
  • Evaluate tax positions and identify opportunities for tax optimization.
  • Support new business initiatives with tax impact analysis.


  • Audit & Litigation:

  • Handle GST audits, assessments, and departmental inquiries.
  • Prepare responses to notices and represent the company before tax authorities.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and legal advisors for litigation matters.


  • Process Improvement:

  • Implement and improve internal controls and processes for indirect tax compliance.
  • Stay updated with changes in tax laws and ensure timely implementation.


  • Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with finance, procurement, legal, and operations teams.
  • Train internal stakeholders on indirect tax developments and compliance requirements.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent qualification.
  • 8–15 years of experience in indirect taxation, preferably in a large corporate or consulting firm.
  • Strong knowledge of GST laws, customs regulations, and other indirect taxes.
  • Experience in handling audits, litigation, and tax planning.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and tax compliance tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
