Summary of the role:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Indirect Tax Manager to join our dynamic India-based team. This role is responsible for managing our U.S. sales and use tax and U.S. property tax functions. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong operational background, capable of leading audit defenses, ensuring compliance, supporting business initiatives, and optimizing our tax processes. About the role:

Tax Audits & Controversy:

• Manage all U.S. sales and use tax and U.S. property tax audits, serving as the primary internal subject matter expert.
• Resolve tax notices, penalties, and inquiries from various tax authorities in a timely and effective manner.
• Act as the main point of contact for external auditors on all indirect tax matters.

Tax Research & Compliance:

• Conduct in-depth technical research on U.S. sales and use tax and property tax issues to ensure accurate application of laws.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, analyze their impact on the business, and implement necessary compliance measures.
• Manage all sales and use tax, and property tax returns prepared by external service providers for accuracy before filing.
• Manage the compliance calendar to ensure all deadlines are met.
• Prepare and file miscellaneous non-income tax returns.

Tax Planning & Strategy:

• Assist in the development and implementation of indirect tax planning strategies to minimize risk and tax exposure.
• Provide tax support for new business projects, e-commerce initiatives, and store operations.

Accounting & Financial Reporting:

• Review monthly journal entries related to sales and use and property tax accruals and accounts.
• Review reconciliation of tax accounts on a monthly and quarterly basis.
• Review accurate data to external advisors for tax return preparation.

Operations & Technology:

• Manage the relationship with external tax service advisors and software vendors.
• Maintain and update the tax configuration settings in Vertex, Avalara, and other tax calculation software to ensure accuracy.
• Support the business by documenting tax issues and resolutions, completing tax registrations, and driving compliance on purchases.
• Manage all tax payments to taxing authorities.

Internal Controls (SOX):

• Serve as the primary liaison for the Global SOX team, responsible for testing the design and operational effectiveness of all indirect tax internal controls.
• Ensure processes are SOX-compliant and support ongoing certification efforts.

About you:

• Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CA/CPA or Masters preferred.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in U.S. indirect tax, with a focus. on sales, use, and property tax; public accounting and/or industry experience required.
• Proven experience leading complex sales and use tax audits from start to finish.
• Strong technical research skills and proficiency with tax research platforms (e.g., CCH, RIA, Bloomberg BNA).
• Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, S4 Hana, and Oracle) and tax automation software (Vertex and/or Avalara experience is highly desirable).
• Solid understanding of SOX 404 controls and experience acting as a control owner or tester.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals and influence cross-functional teams.
