Role Overview

As the Head of the Computer Science & Engineering Department, you will be responsible for providing visionary academic leadership, managing teaching and research activities, and driving innovation in CSE. You will oversee curriculum development, faculty recruitment, quality assurance, industry partnerships, and student progression, ensuring that the department remains at the cutting edge of computer science education.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership & Strategy

  • Set and articulate a clear vision for the CSE Department aligned with the institutional mission.
  • Develop and refine strategic plans, academic policies, and long-term goals for curriculum growth, specialization, and research.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and academic excellence within the department.

Curriculum Development & Delivery

  • Lead the design and update of CSE curricula — including B.Tech (CSE), CSE with AI & ML, and Data Science specializations — to match emerging industry trends.
  • Encourage experiential learning through project-based work, labs, case studies, and interdisciplinary integration.
  • Ensure the adoption of modern pedagogical practices and technology-enhanced teaching.

Faculty Management & Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty members in CSE.
  • Foster faculty engagement in research, publications, and consultancy projects.
  • Organize regular development programs (seminars, workshops, conferences) to enhance faculty skills and keep them updated with latest trends in computer science.

Quality Assurance & Accreditation

  • Ensure the department’s compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., NAAC, NBA) and lead self-assessment efforts.
  • Work with the college’s IQAC to maintain high standards of teaching, learning outcomes, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) like student pass rates, placement, and research outcomes.

Research & Innovation

  • Promote a strong research culture by encouraging faculty and students to publish, patent, and attend conferences.
  • Build and sustain research labs and centres of excellence in areas such as AI, Data Science, Cloud Computing, and more.
  • Seek external funding and industry partnerships for research, internships, and consultancy projects.

Industry Partnerships & Placement

  • Nurture strong collaborations with industry for internships, guest lectures, live projects, and placements.
  • Work with the Placement Cell to ensure high quality recruitment opportunities for CSE students.
  • Encourage joint initiatives like hackathons, corporate training, and certification programs with industry partners.

Student Engagement & Development

  • Mentor students academically and professionally, guiding final year projects, research initiatives, and career plans.
  • Organize student-centric events – seminars, coding competitions, workshops, and student-led research clubs.
  • Support student innovation and entrepreneurship through departmental incubators or start-up initiatives.

Administration & Governance

  • Participate in institutional decision-making bodies (Academic Council, Board of Studies, etc.) representing the CSE Department.
  • Oversee department budgeting, resource allocation, and infrastructure planning (labs, computing resources, software).
  • Maintain regulatory compliance (AICTE, University, Government) and manage departmental operations efficiently.

Infrastructure & Lab Management

  • Ensure that the department’s labs are equipped with modern computing resources and software. According to SCE’s AQAR, the college maintains extensive IT infrastructure, including high-performance systems, servers, and high-speed inter
  • Support the development and maintenance of specialized labs for AI, ML, Cloud, Data Science, etc.



Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field (preferred).
  • Master’s degree (MTech or equivalent) in Computer Science / CSE or related specialization.
  • Significant experience in teaching and research — preferably more than 10 years — with a proven track record of leadership.
  • Strong research profile with relevant publications, project experience, and academic achievements.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and strategic planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams, mentor faculty, and build industry collaborations.
