The Cloud Architect is a senior-level individual contributor responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure solutions that support business op-erations, field applications, and enterprise systems. This role provides architectural leadership and hands-on technical execution across cloud platforms, ensuring alignment with the company’s digital transformation and operational excellence goals in a fast-paced telecommunications engineering and construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design cloud architectures that support web applications, data pipelines, and enterprise integrations in alignment with business needs.
- Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Azure Resource Manager.
- Implement cloud security practices, including identity and access management, encryption, and compliance controls.
- Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps, data engineers, and cybersecurity teams to design reliable and performant cloud-native solutions.
- Optimize cloud usage for cost, performance, and scalability; monitor usage and recommend improvements.
- Lead the migration of on-premise workloads to the cloud, ensuring minimal disruption and high reliability.
- Provide guidance on architectural best practices, solution design, and cloud modernization strategies.
- Create documentation for cloud environments, system architectures, runbooks, and operational support.
- Stay current on emerging cloud technologies and assess their applicability to the business.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field; Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of IT experience with at least 3+ years in a cloud architecture or cloud engineering role.
- Deep expertise with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong knowledge of cloud networking, identity management, security frameworks, and automation.
- Hands-on experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
- Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation and orchestration.
Preferred Experience
- Cloud certification(s) such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Google Professional Cloud Architect.
- Experience in telecommunications, utilities, or construction enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud and multi-cloud environments.
- Exposure to enterprise systems such as ERP (e.g., NetSuite), CRM (e.g., Salesforce), or GIS (e.g., Esri).
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, HIPAA, or NIST.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based or remote, with availability for occasional on-site meetings or data center visits.
- May require availability outside of standard business hours during critical deployments or incidents.
- Collaborative environment working across IT, software engineering, and operational departments.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs (e.g., networking gear, server equipment when on site).
- Must be able to work on a screen for extended periods and attend video-based meetings.
