You Will Be
The Assistant Manager, Merchandise Payables, is responsible for leading a team that manages end-to-end merchandise invoice processing, vendor engagement and query resolution. The role focuses on process standardization, operational efficiency, and compliance, while fostering strong collaboration with internal teams such as fulfillment centers, Merchants and IT. The role involvestalent development, performance management, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to ensure accuracy, timely payments, and a high level of vendor and stakeholder satisfaction.
What You Will Do
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Merchandise Payables team, timely and accurate invoice processing, query management and facilitating vendor payments
- Supervise the three-way matching process (PO, goods receipt, invoice), ensuring discrepancies are resolved quickly in collaboration with Buying, Merchandising, and Fulfillment Centers
- Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex vendor issues, delivering timely, solution-oriented responses while maintaining strong vendor relationships
- Monitor team performance against KPIs including invoice accuracy, resolution turnaround time, and vendor satisfaction
- Identify process inefficiencies and drive process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives across merchandise payables
- Prepare and present regular reports on invoice metrics, issue trends, and team
performance to senior leadership
- Effectively drive the alpha model to derive vendor trends on invoicing and receipts. Problem solving to improve the match rate
- Implement automation in AP workflows to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy
- Lead talent development initiatives, including coaching, performance reviews, succession planning, and team engagement
- Support internal and external audits by maintaining documentation and ensuring process adherence to controls and compliance standards
- Partner with finance and technology teams to support ERP enhancements, issue resolution, and data/reporting needs
- Establish a culture of accountability and operational excellence, fostering innovation, agility, and high performance within the team
You Also Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance
- 8+ years of total experience, with at least 2+ years in people leadership roles
- Proven success in leading complex finance transformations or ERP implementations
- Deep understanding of retail accounting and AP processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complexity and prioritize effectively
- Strong business acumen, leadership presence, and ability to influence cross-functional retail executives
- Interest in the fashion industry and eagerness to grow within the finance function
