Job Role: Assistant Category Manager – ECommerce

Reports To: Head of E-commerce / Business Head
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Assistant Category Manager to drive the growth
and profitability of our e-commerce platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong
background in category planning, vendor management, pricing strategies, merchandising, and
P&L ownership. You will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to grow your
assigned category, improve customer experience, and optimize assortment and supply chain
efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
• Category Strategy & Planning:
o Define and execute category growth strategies aligned with overall business
goals.
o Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and consumer insights to
identify trends and opportunities.
o Forecast demand and manage assortment planning to meet revenue and
margin goals.
o Knowledge of e-commerce platforms, especially Amazon, and experience with
product listing management
• Vendor & Supplier Management:
o Identify, onboard, and manage vendors/suppliers.
o Negotiate terms, pricing, and promotional support to maximize margins and
ensure product availability.
o Foster long-term strategic partnerships with key suppliers.
• Merchandising & Pricing:
o Drive category performance through effective pricing, promotions, and
product visibility.
o Collaborate with marketing and design teams for campaign planning and
content strategy.
o Optimize catalog and listing quality for enhanced discoverability and
conversion.
• Performance Management:
o Own the P&L for the category and deliver on revenue, profit, and inventory
turnover KPIs.
o Analyse sales performance, customer behaviour, and conversion data to make
data-driven decisions.
o Monitor and reduce returns, cancellations, and out-of-stock rates.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:
o Work closely with operations, supply chain, finance, marketing, and product
teams to ensure smooth execution of category plans.
o Drive alignment across teams for promotional campaigns and new product
launches.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (MBA preferred).
• 5–8 years of experience in category management, merchandising, or buying in the e-
commerce or retail industry.
• Hands-on experience with e-commerce platforms (e.g., Amazon, Magento, Shopify,
Salesforce Commerce Cloud) is a plus.
