Systems Engineer I

The Systems Engineering I for database ops is an individual contributor role with expertise in Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL databases who is responsible to maintain & support critical database systems 24x7. Experience in managing other RDBMS/SQL RDBMS DBs both in On-premises and Cloud along with automation skills.

Multi-skilled DBA typically has a wide range of technical responsibilities revolving around managing and optimizing Postgres/MySQL databases hosted On-premise and in cloud. Here are some typical roles and responsibilities:

• Database Design and Architecture: Collaborate with architects, application developers, and stakeholders to design and implement scalable, high-performance database solutions that meet business requirements and align with organizational goals.
• Database Administration: Manage all aspects of the database administration collaborating with application teams, including fresh installation, configuration, monitoring, tuning, backup, recovery, and maintenance.
• Should be excellent in performance tuning to ensure all the databases in the DB estate operates efficiently. Should be responsible to implement performance tuning measures such as index optimization, SQL tuning, optimize databases to enhance overall application performance.
• Database/application Monitoring database: Should be able to provide/implement monitoring solutions, using OEM & other monitoring tools.
• Capacity Planning: Forecasting database growth and resource utilization to ensure that sufficient resources (storage, CPU, memory) are available to support current and future database workloads.
• Database Security: Implementing and maintaining security measures to protect sensitive data stored in databases, including user authentication, access control, and encryption.
• Backup and Recovery: Developing and maintaining backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime in the event of hardware failures, data corruption, or other disasters.
• High Availability and Disaster Recovery: Designing and implementing high availability and disaster recovery solutions. Should be expert in managing HA/DR solutions across DB technologies.
• Patch Management and Upgrades: Expert in in Applying patches, fixes, and upgrades to address security vulnerabilities, bugs, and performance enhancements.
• Database Monitoring and Alerting: Setting up monitoring tools and alerts to proactively identify and resolve database/application issues preventing service disruptions.
• Compliance and Governance: Ensuring that databases comply with relevant industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and internal governance policies regarding data privacy, security, and auditability.
• Vendor Management: Interacting with database vendors to stay updated on product roadmaps, licensing agreements, and support services related to database.
• Troubleshooting and Incident Response: Investigating and resolving database/application -related incidents and service outages in a timely manner, collaborating with other IT teams (e.g., application support, network, system administration) as needed.
• Continuous Improvement: Staying current with emerging technologies, industry trends, adapt best practices database administration and recommend application teams that they align with database standards. Proactively identifying opportunities for process improvements and automation to streamline database management tasks.

• Expertise in managing multiple postgres/mysql databases on medium to large systems hosted on on-prem, cloud infra.
• TDE, SSL, TLS and other DB securities
• Expertise in Performance tuning
• Good knowledge in Azure cloud
• Very good knowledge of Linux/AIX/Windows and its related commands and shell scripting.
• Expertise in troubleshooting, pro-active monitoring, backup, restore/recovery, and performance tuning.
• High availability features – Postgres/MySQL replication
• Good analytical skills and team player.
• 24X7 on-call support on rotational basis.
• Having knowledge of other RDBMS & NoSQL along with automation/cloud skills will be an added advantage.
