Job Description

Job Summary :

The Store Assistant will support the efficient management of the store function by handling day-to-day inventory operations, including receiving, storing, issuing, and recording of raw materials, consumables, spare parts, and finished goods. The role requires accuracy, discipline, and adherence to company policies, ensuring smooth supply for manufacturing operations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming materials, components, and consumables as per delivery challans/invoices.
  • Physically verify the quantity, quality, and condition of received goods against purchase orders.
  • Properly tag and label materials for identification and traceability.
  • Store materials in designated racks/locations as per defined systems (FIFO/FEFO).
  • Ensure safe storage, handling, and preservation of materials to prevent damage, deterioration, or loss.
  • Maintain cleanliness and 5S practices in store areas.
  • Issue materials to production, maintenance, and other departments as per authorized requisitions.
  • Support packing, labeling, and dispatch of finished goods or spare parts as required.
  • Coordinate with dispatch/logistics for timely shipments.
  • Update stock registers, ERP entries, and inventory records promptly and accurately.
  • Monitor minimum stock levels and alert the Store In-Charge for replenishment needs.
  • Assist in cycle counts and periodic physical stock verification.
  • Follow company SOPs, safety guidelines, and statutory compliance in store operations.
  • Coordinate with Purchase, Production, and Quality teams for smooth workflow.
  • Assist in audits (internal/external) by maintaining proper documentation and traceability.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of inventory management systems / ERP (Tally, SAP, or similar).
  • Familiar with MS Office (Excel, Word).
  • Understanding of material classification, FIFO/FEFO methods, and handling of engineering/industrial goods.
  • Good communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience:

1–2 years’ experience in store/warehouse operations in a manufacturing industry (freshers with strong learning ability may also be considered).

Qualifications Required:

Minimum Diploma/Graduate (preferably in Commerce, Mechanical, or Industrial disciplines).


Managerial Skills

  • Team Supervision – Guide and supervise store helpers/assistants for smooth workflow.
  • Planning & Organization – Prioritize day-to-day store tasks to support uninterrupted production.
  • Problem Solving – Quickly resolve material shortages, misplaced items, or stock mismatch issues.
  • Interdepartmental Coordination – Liaise with Purchase, Production, and Quality teams for timely supply.
  • Compliance & Audits – Support in maintaining documentation for internal and external audits.
  • 5S & Safety Implementation – Maintain orderliness, housekeeping, and safe material handling practices.
