Senior Manager - Investments (Performance Calculation)

We are seeking a talented individual to join our Investments team at Mercer. This role will be based in Mumbai. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

Senior Manager - Investments ( Performance Calculation)

We are looking to hire under Project Everest for Performance calculation role for OCIO.

This role requires deep expertise in various performance calculation methodologies including Modified Dietz, Time-Weighted Rate of Return (TWRR), and Money-Weighted Rate of Return (MWRR), as well as strong knowledge of performance attribution analysis and risk analytics such as risk ratios and Value at Risk (VaR).

The successful candidate will be responsible for building trusted partnerships with investment teams and investment services functions, including technology, data, operations, and client reporting. This role involves implementing and monitoring processes to ensure service provider operational delivery meets SLAs, while driving continuous process improvements and automation initiatives.

This dynamic position combines technical expertise, leadership, and collaboration to deliver exceptional client service and operational excellence.

We will count on you for:

• Delivering accurate and timely performance and risk data to stakeholders.
• Developing trusted partnerships and effective working relationships with investment teams and investment services teams including technology, data, operations, and client reporting.
• Implementing processes to monitor and report on service provider operational delivery to SLAs.
• Preparing monthly and quarterly performance reports for Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, and Delegated Solution clients.
• Analyzing performance of different investment options and overall plans using various calculation methodologies including Modified Dietz, Time-Weighted Rate of Return (TWRR), Money-Weighted Rate of Return (MWRR), NAV-based fund returns, bottom-up holding/transaction-based performance calculations, IRRs, and linking of returns.
• Applying well-versed knowledge of performance attribution analysis using a variety of attribution schemes.
• Utilizing and interpreting risk ratios and ex-post risk analytics including Value at Risk (VaR).
• Managing benchmark administration including custom blended benchmarks.
• Ensuring compliance with Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS).
• Communicating with investment managers and custodians to gather and clarify client-specific data for reporting.
• Managing client communications and reviews, including ramp-ups and ongoing transitions.
• Defining, delegating, monitoring, and participating in employee engagement activities.
• Mentoring and leading a team of analysts across different processes, coaching them to develop expertise in investment analytics.
• Owning accountability by troubleshooting issues on projects and driving process improvements.
• Managing relationships with onshore Business Process Owners and senior management.
• Ensuring exceptional client experience and compliance with all internal and client policies.
• Providing timely updates to Level F/G and other stakeholders.
• Training and coaching new hires in automation tools and performance reporting methodologies.
• Implementing and managing incident management processes to ensure operational excellence.
• Developing a GSD Performance team culture that attracts, develops, and retains talent and expertise.
• Managing team performance and development goals effectively.

What you need to have:

• Minimum 8-12 years’ overall experience in investment performance reporting or related fields.
• Candidate with CIPM certification would be highly desired.
• Thorough and well-versed knowledge of performance reporting, including different calculation methodologies such as Modified Dietz, TWRR, MWRR.
• Proven expertise in performance attribution analysis and risk analytics including risk ratios and VaR.
• Strong understanding of a broad range of investment data used in analytics – fund and portfolio level.
• Experience with a variety of performance calculations and their appropriate applications, including NAV-based fund returns, bottom-up holding/transaction-based calculations, TWR, IRRs, and linking of returns.
• Knowledge of benchmark management including custom blended benchmarks.
• Understanding and application of Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS).
• Experience implementing and managing incident management processes.
• Strong command of Python, SQL, VBA, R, and visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
• Proven track record of successfully implementing automation projects.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with proper usage of investment-related terminology.
• Experience analyzing investment portfolios or researching investment managers located outside of India.
• Good command of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask, manage multiple priorities, and work in a dynamic environment while meeting deadlines.
• Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, business communication, and time management skills.
• Strong working knowledge of third-party tools such as Bloomberg, Investment Metrics, Morningstar, FactSet, Lipper, etc.
