We are seeking a Purchasing Manager who shares our passion for natural ingredients and can lead procurement operations with responsibility, integrity, and deep market understanding.
Role Overview
The Purchasing Manager (Raw Material) will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and purchasing high-quality herbs and spices (turmeric, ginger, garlic, red chilli, and others) from farmers, traders, and suppliers. The role involves managing vendor relationships, ensuring quality consistency, optimizing cost and logistics, and supporting the production team with timely supply.
Key Responsibilities
1. Procurement & Vendor Management
• Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers and farmers for herbs and spices.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and supply agreements.
• Maintain strong relationships with local growers and cooperatives, especially in Himachal and nearby regions.
2. Quality & Compliance
• Ensure all raw materials meet company quality standards and certifications (organic, food safety, etc.).
• Coordinate with the Quality Control team for inspection and testing.
• Maintain documentation and traceability for each lot.
3. Forecasting & Inventory Control
• Plan and forecast raw material needs based on production schedules.
• Monitor stock levels and ensure just-in-time procurement.
• Minimize wastage and manage seasonal availability efficiently.
4. Market & Price Analysis
• Track market trends, seasonal fluctuations, and competitor sourcing practices.
• Suggest cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality.
5. Logistics & Coordination
• Manage transportation, packaging, and storage of raw materials.
• Ensure smooth coordination between procurement, accounts, and production teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agri-Business, Supply Chain, Food Technology, or related field.
• MBA in Supply Chain / Agri-Business Management preferred. (Flexible)
Experience:
• 1-3 years of experience in procurement of agricultural or herbal raw materials (spices, herbs, or agro-based industries).
• Experience dealing directly with farmers or local mandis preferred.
Skills:
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Good knowledge of herbs, spices, and organic produce.
• Understanding of procurement documentation, inventory management, and quality assurance processes.
• Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems, or inventory software.
• Fluency in Hindi and English; knowledge of local Himachali dialects is a plus.
